What do you like about studying art? It’s one way I could express myself without a language barrier. Playing with colors has always been fascinating to me.
What are you working on now? I’m the vice president of student senate, and right now I’m working on a community bike project. We gather the abandoned bikes in the dorms. We’re painting them maroon and yellow, and they will be placed all around campus and left in a bike rack so students can come and pick them up. That will be a free service on campus.
What’s the best thing you’ve done at Calvin? Working at Chimes as the photo essay editor for a year. It was just a great experience because I met a whole different group of people, all unique in their own way. It’s just a whole different world to me. They’re a group of people I would never have thought of hanging out with if I wasn’t in the Chimes office.
What do you want to do? I’m thinking of grad school. I really want to make art that holds the right message. It’s so easy to mislead people. And images and visual aids are really powerful tools for communicating with people.
Quick Fact: The Calvin Annual Fund supports more than 60 student-led organizations including Student Senate and Chimes.
