What do you like about an interdisciplinary major? If there’s anything that I am it’s a liberal arts student. I didn’t come to Calvin seeking a particular major, but I knew I was interested in architecture. And the things I study all have a connection to architecture. I really like that I can blend together different pieces of academic departments.
What are you working on? I’m cleaning and re-organizing all of the tools in the art department wood shop, getting them ready for the students coming in the fall. When fall comes, I’ll be assisting in the wood shop, teaching students how to use the tools.
What’s the best thing you’ve done at Calvin? My internship through the Comenius Scholars Program. I got an internship with the U.S. Green Building Council, and it was wonderful to be able to apply my interdisciplinary skills in a direction that’s consistent with my career goals.
After Calvin: I want to study architecture and, without a doubt, do something in a nonprofit field, whether that be in a private practice or working with a nonprofit organization or perhaps with local government.
Quick Fact: Every year, Calvin students have the opportunity to participate in more than 1,050 internships and practicums that are in part supported by the Calvin Annual Fund.
