What do you like about elementary education? You have to be extremely creative with your thinking. You’re re-learning as you’re teaching. It keeps me young. I get to be a kid and an adult at the same time— and not be frowned upon for doing so.
What are you working on? I’m working for the development department at Calvin, setting up a new system for the callers for the Phone-athon. I’ve only had a couple of computer classes, so it’s nice to see how all of the computers and databases work together. And I’ve never seen Calvin from the non-academic side, so it’s nice to see how another side of the college works.
What’s the best thing you’ve done at Calvin? Forming a faith for myself outside of my friends, outside of my family. It’s figuring who I am and what I believe—taking in different mindsets from the denominations which I’ve attended. That, and rugby, which is a brotherhood where you face the odds and are in warfare with your fellow man for glory on the pitch.
After Calvin: I want to be a teacher and a coach.
Quick Fact: The Calvin Annual Fund supports club sports like rugby, lacross and ice hockey.
