To serve as a catalyst for scholarly research in the social sciences. Through research we seek to be agents of renewal in the academy, church and society.

To help Calvin College faculty and students engage in a wide range of high quality and nationally recognized research that helps renew the academy, the church, and society.

Commitments

Faculty Development
  • Enhance the scholarly community at Calvin College in the social sciences.
  • Provide support, services, and developmental opportunities that enable Calvin faculty to reach their full research potential.
  • Connect Calvin faculty with opportunities, information, and potential collaborators in social science research.
  • Encourage Calvin social science faculty to model the integration of faith and scholarship.
  • Assist Calvin faculty in making a place for scholarship in their professional activities.

  • Promote academic and applied research of the highest quality by encouragement, example, and engagement with the college's social science community.
  • Encourage excellence in social research through a variety of research methodologies by providing access to and support for these methodologies.
  • Build a national reputation for research on faith and religion in society.
Partnership
  • Be an active partner in the discourse on societal well-being, by engaging the national scholarly community and local communities of interest.
  • Undertake collaborative and community-based research with scholars, organizations, and institutions at the local, regional, and national level.
  • Serve Calvin College, the Christian Reformed Church, and organizational partners.
Student Involvement
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop their research skills in a mentoring environment.
  • Integrate the development of student research skills into the social science curriculum.

Location

As of February 1, 2008, CSR is located in the Raybrook Building, 2041 Raybrook Ave SE, across Burton Street from the main campus and south of Calvin Theological Seminary. Our mailing address remains the college address at 3201 Burton St. SE.
