Community Relations • Agent of Renewal Award

The Purpose of the Award
The Agent of Renewal Award is presented to a Grand Rapids community member who has made a significant contribution to the community and to the college in terms of modeling what it means to be an agent of renewal. The award is granted by the Calvin Alumni and Public Relations Office and the Calvin Community Partnership Team/Committee to celebrate the work of renewal, unity of purpose, and potential learning that comes from the example of someone other than an alum, staff, faculty, or student who has put Calvin’s mission of “engaging in and renewing society” into practice in a way that benefits Calvin College and the greater community.

The Award
The Agent of Renewal Award consists of a commemorative work of art designating the recipient and the date of the presentation, as well as a parchment tribute to the recipient.

The Basis of the Selection
1. Anyone who works to further God’s Kingdom in society, particularly the Greater Grand Rapids community, but is not a faculty, staff, student or alum of Calvin College, is eligible.
2. The engagement and renewal may be in any field of endeavor as long as it relates to something that is taught at the college. The nature of engagement and the extent to which it is deemed worthy of consideration is to be determined by the Selection Committee.
3. The person selected for the award will be one who manifests a Christian commitment.
4. The Selection Committee will present its recommendation(s) to the Community Partnership Team for approval.
5. The Community Partnership Team will announce the recipients at the annual off-campus Community Partnership Celebration event.

The Selection Committee
The Selection Committee composed of four representatives of the community partnership team/committee. It is the same committee that selects Community Partnership Recognitions.

The Number of Awards
1. The number of awards given will not exceed one at any one presentation.
2. Normally the presentation will be made once a year at a Community Partnership Celebration held off-campus.
3. If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no nominee merits recommendation for the award in any given year, it is not compelled to make a recommendation.
