All teaching or research projects involving vertebrate animals must undergo review, (1) either by the Animal Care and Use Committee of Calvin College, or, (2) if the animals are to be housed within the facilities of the West Michigan Regional Laboratory, by the WMRL Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. These committees, composed of individuals representing scientists, veterinarians, nonscientists, and laypeople from the community, have the final say in the use of vertebrate animals at Calvin College. No study may begin or continue without approval from the appropriate committee.
If investigators or instructors will be using mammals on campus, these mammals typically are housed at the WMRL. Forms and assistance can be obtained from the WMRL website.
All other investigators and instructors should download the form with instructions that appears on the right, under "Related Resources." The dean for the natural sciences and mathematics can put you in touch with the current Calvin ACUC chair.
