Proposal Information for Working Groups
The Calvin Center for Christian Scholarship funds one or two Working Groups for faculty members each academic year. The purpose of these groups is to bring together an interdisciplinary collection of colleagues who will, together, concentrate upon a particular issue, problem, or topic by meeting monthly and discussing texts they have chosen and read in common. These groups will be encouraged to share their conclusions with the entire faculty, and to host a speaker at a year-end event that may represent a culmination of their work.
It is the goal of the Center to develop one working group in the humanities and one in the sciences, both broadly understood. It is the hope of the Governing Board that these Working Groups might be the source of projects fully funded by the Calvin Center for their subsequent year.
How to apply for a Working Group:
Complete the proposal form (MS Word) for such a working group, to be completed by a faculty member of Calvin College who would be willing to head such a group.
The Governing Board encourages colleagues to meet with the director of the Calvin Center, Professor James Bratt, in the development of their vision for these Working Groups.
In addition to the above, Faculty involved in the planning of research that involves human subjects in any way, from interviews or questionnaires to medical procedures with living persons or bodily substances, must submit a research proposal to the current chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The board is mandated by governmental agencies to review and approve research with human subjects using one of three processes. Please consult the IRB page if your research involves human subjects for further instructions.
