What happens in a career counseling appointment?
Counselors start out by asking you what you'd like assistance with. Often, counselors administer the Myers-Briggs personality assessment, Strong Interest Inventory, and StengthsFinder, which help clarify vocational choices. Contact us to set up an appointment to start harnessing these tools.
What technological resources are available to help with career exploration?
CareerSearch is an extensive searchable database of companies and organizations all over the U.S. in a wide variety of fields. Unlike many databases, CareerSearch provides contact names for various employees at each company. Calvin pays for one person to use this program at a time, so we don't advertise the password widely. If you're interested in using this program, either go to the Career Resource Center on the 2nd floor of the Hekman Library, or contact our office for log-in information.
Vault contains a vast array of excellent career information, including detailed information about specific companies, employee interviews, and guides for specific industries.
CalvinLink is an online system for posting jobs created by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Direct Employers and by Symplicity. Use CalvinLink to search for a full-time job or internship or to find a part-time job while you are in school.
What is the Career Resource Center?
Located on the main (2nd) floor of Hekman Library, the Career Resource Center contains a variety of materials related to job searching, career exploration, and graduate school. Job seekers may use our computers and printer to assist with their search. All of our handouts and hundreds books are available for perusal. Also, walk-in hours are hosted here weekdays during the school year, and Bonnie Speyers' office is here.
