Calvin Career Seekers Head to Chicago
Calvin’s career development and alumni offices teamed up with enthusiastic alumnus Russ Clousing ‘87 to help students find coveted jobs and internships in Chicago through the first ever Calvin in Chicago Job Fair. On Wed, Oct 24, at 7:00 a.m. sharp, two busloads full of students trekked downtown to the University Club of Chicago, forgoing the chance to sleep in during advising break.
Russ worked with the Chicago alumni chapter to find 15 companies to recruit at the fair, including KPMG, The Private Bank, Motorola Solutions, Ingalls Health System, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. And he was thrilled with the results, saying, "There was a lot of energy in the room. Both the employers and the students were interacting well and using the opportunity to the fullest."
More than130 students attended. After the fair, they networked with employers over lunch, enjoyed free time in the city, and then shared a pizza dinner with alumni before returning home. Students left the city exhausted, but pleased. Student comments included “It was a fantastic event!” and “Thank you for planning this! It shows how Calvin cares.”
Employers were impressed, too. "Calvin students were very well prepared. I had a delightful morning talking to these young people," said Bastian Knoppers '71, a senior executive at FIS International.
