Fall 2009 Recruiting Season
Given the current economic climate, make sure you are well-prepared this fall to meet potential employers and make your best impression with them during recruiting season. To help you plan ahead and make adjustments to your work schedules as needed, be sure to plan on attending these important events:
- Accounting Night
- Office Visits
- On-Campus Interviewing

- September 21, 2009, Calvin's Prince Conference Center
- Seniors attend from 6:30-7:30 p.m., juniors from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
- Meet with representatives from accounting firms and businesses that hire accountants
- Dress professionally (See our "Best Dressed Candidate" handout for more info on attire)
Accounting Night is a mini job fair. You'll go from table to table, introducing yourself, handing out your resume (which should be printed on resume paper), and asking appropriate questions.
Employers use Accounting Night to determine which students they would like to interview further. First impressions count, so dress professionally, present a firm handshake, and prepare a brief introduction about yourself.
Tips:
- Make your introductory statement your own: don't all use the same line. Show a little creativity here!
- Don't approach the firm representatives in packs, small groups, or with your buddy. This is about you making an impression and moving forward on your own.
- Rsearch the companies that will be attending. Recruiters aren't impressed by students who ask "So, what does your company do?" Know about the employers before the event.
- Get more comfortable with interviewing! Schedule a practice interview with a career counselor. If you have not had a practice interview with our office before, it is required.

Directions and more details about 2009 office visits
Office visits are an important part of the recruiting process. The firms want to tell you about themselves, but they are also interested in observing you and how you interact others. Therefore, behave professionally. Dress code is business casual, which means you don't have to wear a suit, but you shouldn't wear jeans either. Wear (clean and ironed!) khakis or dress pants, a conservative top (button up shirt, or plain sweater, etc), and dress shoes. You will be able to sign up for these visits in class.
