In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

SUNDAY 09-02-2007

  • At 1:30PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons kitchen.  A student employee had lost consciousness.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 6:35PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall lobby.  A student was suffered from an allergic reaction to a bee sting.  A staff member agreed to transport the student to a Med Center for treatment.

MONDAY 09-03-2007

  • At 9:37AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Bolt/Heyns/Timmer Residence Hall.  A student was suffered from severe pain.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

  WEDNESDAY 09-05-2007

  • At 8:00AM the Grounds Department reported a piece of equipment missing from their storage area.  A subsequent investigation determined who removed the equipment.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 10:00AM CIT reported that on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 an overhead projector was found to be missing from North Hall room 064.

  THURSDAY 09-06-2007                                               

  • At 5:00PM a Seminary student reported that at 4:30PM on today’s date he left his backpack unattended in a study carrel on the fourth floor of the Hekman Library.  The student stated he returned to the carrel at 4:45PM and found the backpack was missing.  The back pack contained textbooks and the student’s wallet.
  • At 10:50PM a resident of Zeta/Lambda Residence Hall reported observing two suspicious persons near the bike rack area.  One subject was observed riding a bicycle and the other was walking.  The witness stated that several minutes later both subjects left the area riding bicycles.  At 12:30AM on Friday, 9-7-2007 the two suspects were observed riding west on Burton St.  When the subjects were approached both subjects fled the area leaving one of the bicycles.  The bicycle was held for safe keeping pending owner identification.

FRIDAY 09-07-2007

  • At 10:45PM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Noordewier/VanderWerp short term parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

  SUNDAY 09-09-2007

  • At 3:35PM Campus Safety found two young males inside the fenced construction area.  The subjects were identified and turned over to their parents.  The subjects were told not to return to campus.

MONDAY 09-10-2007

  • At 1:35PM a student reported that on Saturday, 09-08-2007 he left his unsecured bicycle sitting up against Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall building.  The student stated that when he returned for the bicycle on today’s date the bicycle was missing.

  THURSDAY 09-13-2007

  • At 12:05AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the East Beltline parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:15AM a seminary student reported that at 7:00PM on Tuesday, 9-11-2007 he left his coat and hat in the coat rack area of the exercise room in the Fieldhouse while he used the facilities.  The student stated that when he returned for the hat and coat the hat was missing and a check was missing from his jacket pocket.

  SATURDAY 09-15-2007

  • At 3:32AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the East Beltline parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:35AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.  A student had suffered a foot laceration.  The victim was treated at the scene and elected to seek further medical treatment at a later time if needed.
  • At 5:15PM a staff member reported that sometime between during the evening of Friday, 9-14-2007 and the morning of Saturday, 9-15-2007 damage was done to passenger side of his vehicle while it was parked on campus.
  • At 7:05PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at the Commons.  A student had fallen and suffered a knee injury.  The victim elected to be transported to her vehicle and sought her own treatment.

SUNDAY 09-16-2007

  • At 2:30AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the area of Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 5:05AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus policy on drug paraphernalia possession in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

MONDAY 09-17-2007

  • At 1:40PM a student reported that at 1:30PM on today’s date he left his bicycle unlocked at the bike rack on the east side of the Science Building.  The victim stated that when he returned for the bicycle 5 minutes later he found the bicycle missing.  The bicycle was described as an Orange Trek Mountain Bike.  About an hour later the victim called Campus Safety and reported that he saw a subject riding his bicycle near Johnny’s Café.  The victim stated he followed the subject on his bicycle to the Knollcrest East apartments where the subject parked the bicycle and walked off campus.  The subject was described as a male in his 30’s, wearing a boxing jacket and a red Yankees cap.

  TUESDAY 09-18-2007

  • At 1:26PM a seminary student reported that at 1:07PM on today’s date he left his backpack containing his laptop computer under a desk on the fourth floor of the Hekman Library.  The student stated he left the area for approximately 5 minutes and when he returned the backpack was missing.  The back pack was later found later under another carrel on the same floor.  The laptop computer was missing from the backpack.
  • At 10:00PM staff at the Prince Conference and Lodging Center reported a suspicious person loitering in their building.  The subject was located and identified.  The subject has no legitimate reason for being in the building or on campus and voluntarily left campus.

  FRIDAY 09-21-2007

  • At 4:00PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance on the north end of the track area.  A student had suffered an arm injury while playing rugby.  The victim was treated at the scene and elected to be transported to a med center by a friend.

  SATURDAY 09-22-2007

  • At 10:33AM staff in the Campus Store reported two persons in the store that were suspected of taking textbooks from other area bookstores.  The subjects were identified and the information turned over to the Grand Rapids Police Department for investigation.

  SUNDAY 09-23-2007

  • At 5:00PM Campus Safety investigated a report of unauthorized parking near Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  The owner of the vehicle was identified and issued a parking violation.
  • At 10:45PM Campus Safety assisted the KE residence staff in investigating a violation of the campus alcohol policy.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

MONDAY 09-24-2007

  • At 12:05PM a student stated that at 8:30AM on today’s date he parked his motorcycle in the west parking lot.  The student stated that when he returned to the motorcycle he found damage to the bike.  Earlier in the day an unidentified person contacted Campus Safety to report a motorcycle lying on its side in the west parking lot.  The bike was righted and an attempt was made at that time to contact the owner.  It appeared that a vehicle may have struck the motorcycle while it was parked causing the damage to the bike when it fell.
  • At 8:55PM a vehicle with numerous parking violations was observed in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  An immobilizer was placed on the vehicle with a notice to the owner to contact Campus Safety.  The owner contacted Campus Safety later in the evening and resolved the matter.

  TUESDAY 09-25-2007

  • At 12:26PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A student had sustained various abrasions while riding his bicycle.  The victim was treated at the scene.

  WEDNESDAY 09-26-2007

  • At 2:25PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Hiemenga Hall.  A student had suffered a foot injury.  The victim was evaluated and treated at the scene.
  • At 5:25PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Knollcrest Dining Hall.  A Food Service employee had suffered a hand laceration.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a fellow employee agreed to transport the victim to Med-1 for treatment.
  • At 10:15PM residents in Bavink Residence Hall reported that at 6:45PM on today’s date they left their apartment.  The residents stated that when they left the apartment the screen door on the slider was locked but the glass slider door was left unlocked.  The residents reported that when they returned at 10:10PM they found the screen door ripped, the glass slider open, and items strewn around their apartment.  The residents stated that two laptop computers, a camera, and other miscellaneous items were found missing from the apartment.  The main entry door was also found unlocked.  Grand Rapids Police were contacted and responded to the scene to begin an investigation. Neighbors reported seeing two unfamiliar young men wearing caps and heavy jackets and a woman with a long pony tail leaving the building around 9:00 pm.  

THURSDAY 09-27-2007

  • At 12:10PM a student reported that at 8:00AM on today’s date he parked his vehicle in the parking lot west of the Engineering Building.  The student stated that when he returned to the vehicle he found damage to the front bumper of his vehicle apparently caused by another vehicle striking his parked vehicle.
  • At 3:45PM a student reported that when she parked he vehicle in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot at 10:00PM on Wednesday, 9-26-2007 she noticed damage to the right rear corner of the vehicle that she had not noticed before.  The vehicle owner was unsure if the damage was done to the vehicle while it was previously parked on campus or if the damage had occurred while the vehicle was off campus.
  • At 4:40PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Hiemenga Hall.  A visitor had suffered a hand laceration.  The victim was treated at the scene.
  • At 11:55PM Campus Safety received a report of an odor of smoke in the Commons Building.  The building was evacuated and the source of the smoke was found to be smoldering towels in a container.  The container was removed from the building and water applied to the towels.  The building was ventilated to remove the smoke.

  SATURDAY 09-29-2007

  • At 1:40AM Campus Safety assisted the residence hall staff with an investigation of a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.  The non student involved was turned over to a parent.
  • At 2:25AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall lobby.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.  

SUNDAY 09-30-2007

  • At 12:48AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall.  A student had suffered a foot injury.  The victim was treated at the scene and elected to follow up at Health Services on Monday.
