In order for you to effectively deter crime, you must know what the current crime trends are. Read the Campus Safety Report every week. It can also be found in the Chimes student newspaper. In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

FRIDAY 11-2-2007

  • At 5:11PM Campus Safety investigated a reported threat made by one student toward another.  The students involved were interviewed and they student that made the threat stated that he had used poor judgment in his choice of words.  The student receiving the threat stated that she did not feel that the treat was genuine.  The information on the incident was turned over to the residence hall staff for follow up.  

SATURDAY 11-3-2007

  • At 1:00AM a staff member at Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall reported a can with a flaming liquid burning on the roof just below the sun deck.  The flame was extinguished and no damage was found to the area.  

MONDAY 11-05-2007

  • At 11:35PM Campus Safety investigated a report of an assault by one student against another student.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.  

FRIDAY 11-9-2007

  • At 2:12AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Beets/Veenstra Residence Hall.  A student had suffered a foot injury.  The victim was evaluated and elected to have a family member transport her to a med center for treatment.
  • At 5:07PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.  A student had suffered a hand injury.  The victim was treated at the scene and elected to seek further treatment at a later time if needed.  

SATURDAY 11-10-2007

  • At 12:20AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 3:18PM the HPERDS Department reported that vandalism had taken place on the cross country course  sometime between the afternoon of Friday, 11-09-2007 and the morning of Saturday, 11-10-07.  The Grounds Department had been called to eliminate the vandalism prior to the scheduled regional cross country meet.  

SUNDAY 11-11-2007

  • At 5:50PM staff at the Fine Arts Center reported a person found in a restricted area of the building.  The subject was identified and given a letter of no trespassing and warned not to return to campus.  The subject was escorted off campus.

MONDAY 11-12-2007

  • At 10:58AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Science Building.  A student was suffering from a severe nosebleed.  The victim was treated at the scene and transported to his residence hall.
  • At 3:02PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Spoelhof College Center.  A student was reported to have lost consciousness.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.

TUESDAY 11-13-2007

  • At 1:35AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus open house policy in Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:00AM staff at Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall reported that at 11:00AM on Friday, 11-9-2007 the microwave in the first floor of Huizinga was found to have been damaged.  It appeared that an object had been placed in the microwave.  The microwave had been turned on and the object then burned in the oven causing damage to the oven and filling the room with smoke.  

WEDNESDAY 11-14-2007

  • At 11:38AM a faculty member in the HPERDS Department reported that sometime between Friday, 11-2-2007 and today’s date money was taken from her office in the Fieldhouse.  The staff member stated that the office was unlocked for most of the stated time period and that numerous persons had used the office.  

FRIDAY 11-16-2007

  • At 4:15AM Campus Safety found that graffiti had been scrawled on the pavement at various entrance to the campus.  Maintenance was contacted to remove the graffiti.
  • At 8:45AM Campus Safety investigated an incident of fraudulent vehicle registration.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.  

SATURDAY 11-17-2007

  • At 7:10PM a student reported that he observed a white Chevrolet Impala back out of a parking space in the Rooks/VanDellen short term parking lot and strike a vehicle parked on the roadway.  The white vehicle then left the scene.  The owner of the parked vehicle was contacted and came to the scene.  

SUNDAY 11-18-2007

  • At 6:00AM Campus Safety investigated a report of a suspicious person in the Schultze/Eldersveld lobby.  The subject was identified as a non student and found to be in the possession of a student’s ID card.  The subject was told not to return to campus and the information on the student supplying the ID card was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

MONDAY 11-26-2007

  • At 11:07AM a student reported that on Wednesday, 11-21-2007 she parked her vehicle in the west parking lot.  The student stated that she left the vehicle in the lot over Thanksgiving Break and returned to the vehicle on Sunday, 11-25-2007 at 7:00PM.  The student stated that when she returned to the vehicle she found that two mirrors and both headlights had been damaged.
  • At 4:15PM a student reported that he was unable to locate his CD folder containing 200 CD’s.  The student stated that he returned to campus with a friend at 11:30PM on Sunday, 11-25-2007 and had the CD folder in the friend’s vehicle with him.  The student stated that he left the folder at a friend’s room in Van Dellen Residence Hall on Sunday evening.  The student stated that when he returned for the CD folder on today’s date he could not find the folder and that a search of the vehicle did not produce the folder.

TUESDAY 11-27-2007

  • At 6:00PM a faculty member reported a student not showing up for a scheduled activity and that efforts to contact the student had not been successful.  A check of the student’s residence hall room was unsuccessful and a roommate and family member stated that they were unaware of the whereabouts of the student.

  FRIDAY 11-30-2007

  • At 10:40AM staff at the Audio Visual Department reported that sometime prior to August 17, 2007 two IBM laptop computers were noticed missing from a mobile laptop lab cart that normally contains 24 laptop computers.  The items had not been located or returned and were now being reported as stolen.
