In order for you to effectively deter crime, you must know what the current crime trends are. Read the Campus Safety Report every week. It can also be found in the Chimes student newspaper. In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

FRIDAY 06-01-2007

  • At 8:13AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall.  A conference attendee was reported to be experiencing a reaction to his medication.  An ambulance was requested and the victim evaluated at the scene by paramedics.  The victim reused any further treatment at that time.  At 9:29AM a second request for medical assistance was received from the same location.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 10:31AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Science Building A staff member was reported to be experiencing light headedness and a rapid pulse.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.

SUNDAY 06-03-2007

  • At 4:10AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Theta/Epsilon Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

MONDAY 06-04-2007

  • At 12:00PM a student reported that sometime in the last month his unlocked bicycle was taken from the bike rack near the entrance to the Hekman Library.
  • At 9:00PM a Seminary student reported that at 6:30PM on Wednesday, 5-30-2007 he left two computer drives in an unlocked office on the fourth floor of the Hekman Library.  The student stated that when he returned on today’s date the computer drives and several disks were missing.

 

TUESDAY 06-05-2007

  • At 2:40PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident at the entrance to the west parking lot.  A vehicle entering the lot struck a vehicle waiting to exit the lot causing extensive damage to the waiting vehicle.

 WEDNESDAY 06-06-2007

  • At 6:10AM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident in the Prince Conference Center parking lot.  A vehicle struck a light pole causing damage to the front of the vehicle.
  • At 8:40AM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident at the East Beltline Lot entrance.  A vehicle turning around in the roadway backed over a large rock causing damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle.
  • At 12:55PM Campus safety investigated a two vehicle accident that occurred at 11:15AM on today’s date in the Prince Conference Center parking lot.  A vehicle traveling through the lot was struck by a vehicle backing out of a parking space causing damage to both vehicles.

  THURSDAY 06-07-2007

  • At 1:15PM Campus Safety investigated a report of a tree limb that had fallen on a vehicle parked in the Rooks/VanDellen short term parking lot.  On inspection it was found that a small limb had fallen on the trunk lid of the vehicle causing minor damage.

 MONDAY 06-11-2007

  • At 3:30PM a Seminary student reported that at 12:30PM on today’s date he left his book bag containing his laptop in a study carrel on the fourth floor of the Hekman Library.  The student stated that when he returned to the carrel at 12:30PM the book bag was missing.

  TUESDAY 06-12-2007

  • At 2:55PM a student reported that at 2:25PM on today’s date he left his cell phone unattended for a few minutes in a study carrel on the fourth floor of the Hekman Library.  The victim stated that when he returned to the carrel the cell phone was missing.  The victim supplied a description of a subject he had seen in the area of the study carrel.
  • At 4:00PM Campus Safety received reports of two missing bicycles.  One unlocked bicycle was missing from the area near the Hekman Library entrance in the last hour and another unlocked bicycle was missing in the last hour from the bike rack outside of Bavink Residence Hall.

 FRIDAY 06-15-2007

  • At 1:18PM Campus Safety investigated a car bicycle accident at the Burton Street entrance.  A vehicle exiting campus struck a bicycle traveling east on the sidewalk causing minor damage to the bicycle.  The cyclist suffered a minor knee laceration.
  • At 6:15PM a college employee reported that a tire on a rented golf cart had been damaged after the operator ran over a large metal object near Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  

SATURDAY 06-16-2007

  • At 3:53AM Campus Safety investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle and persons in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot.  The subjects were located and identified.  Grand Rapids Police were called to the scene and the subjects were arrested.

TUESDAY 06-19-2007

  • At 11:58PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.  A conference member was reported as having difficulty breathing.  An ambulance was requested and the victim was transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.  

THURSDAY 06-21-2007

  • At 1:11PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at the Science Building Heat Plant construction site.  A worker had suffered a fall and facial injuries.  The victim was transported to Med-1 by a staff member for treatment.
  • At 1:24PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the lobby of Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.  A conference member was experiencing a severe nosebleed.  The victim was treated at the scene.

 

FRIDAY 06-22-2007

  • At 4:13PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fine Arts Center.  A student was suffering from severe abdominal pain.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

SUNDAY 06-24-2007

  • At 8:27PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Chapel.  A conference attendee was reported to be unresponsive with very shallow breathing.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

TUESDAY 06-26-07

  • At 3:00PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Knollcrest Dining Hall parking lot  a vehicle backing up in the lot struck a parked vehicle causing minor damage to the parked vehicle.  

FRIDAY 06-29-07

  • At 3:50PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.  A student was reported to experiencing difficulty regulating his medication.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a staff member transported the victim to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 4:22PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the west parking lot.  A vehicle backing out of a parking space struck a parked vehicle causing damage to both vehicles.

  SATURDAY 06-30-2007

  • At 12:58PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the area east of Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall.  A conference attendee had fallen from a tree.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.
  • At 11:50PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at the northwest entrance to Johnny’s Café.  A conference attendee had lost consciousness, fallen from a retaining wall, and suffered a head injury.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.
