In order for you to effectively deter crime, you must know what the current crime trends are. Read the Campus Safety Report every week. It can also be found in the Chimes student newspaper. In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

THURSDAY 01-04-2007

  • At 12:55PM the Food Service reported that a cell phone used by the catering employees was missing from the office.  The last time the phone was seen was on 12-18-2006.

 FRIDAY 01-05-2007

  • At 7:00PM a student reported that on Tuesday, 1-2-2007 he parked his vehicle in the East Beltline parking lot.  The student stated that when he returned to the vehicle at 6:45PM on today's date he found the stereo, jumper cables, and a survival kit missing from his vehicle.

 SUNDAY 01-07-2007

  • At 6:50AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot.  The names of the students involved were turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 1:09PM a student reported that some time between 1:00AM and 12:15PM money was taken from his unlocked residence hall room in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.
  • At 2:13PM a student reported that sometime between 3:30AM and 1:40PM on today's date money and and iPod Nano were taken from his unlocked room in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.
  • At 10:10PM a student reported receiving a threatening note that was attached to her residence hall room door in Bolt/Heyns/Timmer Residence Hall.

MONDAY 01-08-2007

  • At 10:15PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Hekman Library Lobby.  A student had fallen and had suffered a knee injury.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

 TUESDAY 01-09-2007

  • At 1:05PM Campus Safety investigated a theft of items from the Campus Store.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

WEDNESDAY 01-10-2007

  • At 6:35PM residents in Alpha Hall reported several suspicious subjects in the area of the Knollcrest East apartments.  The subjects were located in the basement of Berkhof Residence Hall.  The Grand Rapids Police Department responded to campus and identified the subjects.  The subjects were advised that they would be arrested for trespassing if they returned to campus.

 FRIDAY 01-12-2007

  • At 4:00AM Campus Safety assisted the residence hall staff investigate a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 2:50PM staff at the Campus Store reported that sometime between Friday, 1-5-2007 and Monday, 1-8-2007 textbooks were taken from a pallet in the Commons Loading dock area.
  • At 5:25PM staff at the Woodlawn CRC Ministry Center reported that a vehicle left the roadway, drove over the lawn, and struck the building.  The vehicle then fled east o Burton Street.  The Grand Rapids Police Department was contacted to come to the scene.

 SATURDAY 01-13-2007

  • At 1:17AM Campus Safety assisted the residence hall staff in investigating a violation of the campus alcohol policy.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.-At 1:30PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A spectator had fallen on the north east stairwell in the building and had suffered a hand injury.  The victim was evaluated and declined any further treatment.
  • At 2:00PM a student reported that he left a friend's laptop unattended in a Library fourth floor study carrel for a few minutes around 1:30PM on today's date.  The student stated that when he returned the laptop and bag were missing.
  • At 3:43PM a student reported that at 8:00PM on Wednesday, 1-3-2007 she parked her vehicle in the East Beltline parking lot.  The student stated that when she returned to the unlocked vehicle on Friday 1-5-2007 she found that the vehicle parking permit had been removed from her windshield.

MONDAY 01-15-2007

  • At 1:55PM Campus Safety found a dead turkey lying on the hood of one of the Service Learning Center vehicles in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  The turkey was disposed of.
  • At 7:45PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  A student had suffered and ankle injury earlier in the day while playing basketball.  The victim was evaluated and a friend transported the victim to Spectrum Health for treatment.

 TUESDAY 01-16-2007

  • At 12:19AM Campus Safety found a bicycle abandon off of the walkway near Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  The bicycle was held for safe keeping.  The bicycle was described as a Pacific Paradise fifteen speed.
  • At 11:00AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A student had lost consciousness.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and requested assistance in returning to her residence hall room.  The victim was transported to her residence hall room and elected to seek further treatment later if needed.

 THURSDAY 01-18-2007

  • At 2:45PM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Alpha Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

 FRIDAY 01-19-2007

  • At 2:32AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 3:30PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Knollcrest Dining Hall.  An employee was suffering from pain and difficulty breathing.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

 SATURDAY 01-20-2007

  • At 3:40PM a student reported receiving a harassing phone call in his residence hall room in Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  The information on the call was turned over to the Telecommunications Office for investigation.

MONDAY 01-22-2007

  • At 10:43AM Campus Safety responded to a report of a car fire in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  The Grand Rapids Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
  • At 11:55PM the Library maintenance staff reported that two computers were missing from the ITC lab.  The staff stated that at 10:10PM they found two persons in the ITC lab after the library had closed. The subjects were told to leave and were seen leaving the library main entrance at 10:30PM.  When the maintenance staff returned to the ITC lab they found the two iMac computers missing.

 THURSDAY 01-25-2007

  • At 9:41AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  A visitor had slipped on some ice and was suffering from a knee injury.  The victim was evaluated and a staff member agreed to transport the victim to a Med Center for treatment.
  • At 10:15AM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Fine Arts Center Parking lot.  A vehicle moving through the lot was struck by another vehicle pulling out of a driving aisle causing damage to the first vehicle.

 FRIDAY 01-26-2007

  • At 6:25PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons Dining Hall kitchen.  A Food Service worker had fallen and suffered a head laceration.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.

 SUNDAY 01-28-2007

  • At 5:30PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons Dining Hall.  A student had fallen on an icy spot outside and had suffered an ankle injury.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a friend agreed to transport the victim to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

WEDNESDAY 01-31-07

  • At 4:24PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Hekman Library.  A student worker had fallen in a stairwell and suffered an ankle injury.  The victim was evaluated and a friend agreed to transport the victim to Med 1 for treatment.
  • At 5:45PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Johnny's Café.  A visitor had fallen on some stairs and suffered a facial injury.  The victim was evaluated and a family member agreed to transport the victim to a Med Center for treatment.
