In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

THURSDAY 02-01-2007

  • At 2:30PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  A vehicle moving through the lot stopped and then backed up striking another vehicle following behind causing minor damage to the following vehicle.
  • At 3:05PM Campus Safety met a student in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot to investigate a claim that damage was possibly done to her vehicle during snow removal in the lot.
  • At 11:45PM a student reported that sometime between 9:30PM and 10:20PM on today's date his laptop computer was taken from his unlocked residence hall room in Huizinga Hall.

 FRIDAY 02-02-2007

  • At 2:22PM a visitor to the Seminary reported that when she entered the Seminary parking lot at 2:05PM on today's day she saw two subjects looking into vehicles and trying doors.  When the subjects saw the visitor they entered a vehicle and left the area.

 SATURDAY 02-03-2007

  • At 5:35AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Huizinga Residence Hall.  A student was suffered stomach pain and nausea.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.

TUESDAY 02-06-2007

  • At 12:34PM a student reported that at 7:55PM on today's date she parked her vehicle in the west parking lot.  The student stated that when she returned to the vehicle at 12:30PM she found the front passenger side window broken out and her purse, CD's, textbooks, and digital camera were missing from the vehicle.  Grand Rapids Police Department was contacted to come to the scene and take a report.

 WEDNESDAY 02-07-2007

  • At 10:15AM a staff member in CIT reported that sometime between 5PM on Monday, 2-5-2007 and 8AM on Tuesday, 2-6-2007 money was taken from an unlocked drawer in room 106.
  • At 1:55PM a student reported that at 12:30PM on today's date she parked her vehicle in the West Parking lot.  The student stated that she observed a suspicious maroon, early 90's model Buick 4 door with 2 male subjects in the parking lot.  The student stated that when she returned to her vehicle she found the driver's side window broken on the vehicle and two gas cards and a battery charger were missing from the vehicle.  The rest of the lot was checked and three more vehicles were found with broken windows.  The owners were contacted and came to the scene.  Each reported missing items from their vehicles.  The Grand Rapids Police Department responded to the scene to begin an investigation.

 FRIDAY  02-09-2007

  • At 2:19PM a staff member reported that sometime around 12:45PM on today's date she left a blue money pouch in the Commons Annex.  The staff member stated that when she discovered that the pouch was left in the Commons Annex and returned to look for it she could not find the pouch.
  • At 2:45PM a Prince Conference Center employee reported that sometime between 11:30AM and 12:00PM on today's date her vehicle was struck while parked in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  Visible damage could be seen to left rear of the vehicle.
  • At 4:41PM a student reported that at 3:00PM on today's date he found his wallet on the floor of the men's locker room in the Fieldhouse.  The student stated that his driver's license, a debit card, and a credit card were missing from the wallet.  The student was advised to file a report with the Grand Rapids Police Department.

 SUNDAY 02-11-2007

  • At 3:49AM an intoxicated subject was at the door of the Campus Safety Office.  The subject stated he was from out of town and had left his friends in East Grand Rapids and walked toward campus and came to the first building with lights on.  The subject was identified as a resident of Lansing, Michigan.  A local friend was located to pickup the subject.
  • At 4:00PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident on the west roadway north of the Fieldhouse.  A vehicle traveling north on the campus roadway slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle causing damage to both vehicles.

TUESDAY 02-13-2007

  • At 3:25AM Campus Safety investigated an apparent abandoned vehicle in the KE parking lot.  The vehicle did not display a license plate or Calvin vehicle permit.  A check with the Secretary of State's Office for vehicle information showed that the vehicle belonged to a student.
  • At 3:15PM a student in Bennink Residence Hall reported that sometime between Friday, February 2, 2007 and Sunday, February 4, 2007 money was taken from her wallet in her unlocked residence hall room.
  • At 7:34PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Rooks Residence Hall.  A student had lost consciousness.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a staff member agreed to transport the victim to a med center for treatment.

 WEDNESDAY 02-14-2007

  • At 3:40PM a student reported that at 10:25AM on today's date she parked her vehicle in the southwest parking lot.  The student stated that when she returned to her vehicle at 3:30PM she found damage to the passenger rear corner of her vehicle apparently caused by another vehicle striking hers.
  • At 10:01PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A student had suffered an arm injury while playing basketball.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a friend agreed to transport the victim to a med center for treatment.

 THURSDAY 02-15-2007

  • At 5:50PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at Health Services.  A student was suffering from severe abdominal pain and vomiting.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.

 SATURDAY 02-17-2007

  • At 2:05AM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident in the Prince Conference Center parking lot.  A vehicle slid on the icy pavement and slid into a packed snow bank causing damage to the front bumper of the vehicle.
  • At 6:30AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Beets/Veenstra short term.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:30AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance.  A student worker had suffered a leg injury.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a friend agreed to transport the victim to a med center for treatment.

 SUNDAY 02-18-2007

  • At 2:25PM the deskie at Theta-Epsilon reported that when she arrived at work at 2:00PM on today's date she found damage to the sliding gate at the desk apparently caused by someone attempting to enter the area.

MONDAY 02-19-2007

  • At 9:10PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at the north entrance of the Spoelhof College Center.  A student had suffered a previous head injury and was disoriented and unable to walk.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a friend transported the subject to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 11:45PM Campus Safety investigated a report of a suspicious substance found in a plastic bag in the Schultze/Eldersveld short term parking lot.  The substance was secured and taken for analysis.

 TUESDAY 02-20-2007

  • At 2:05AM Campus Safety responded to a report of a subject seen in the lower level of the Spoelhof College Center.  The area was checked and no one was found in the area.
  • At 8:27PM a student reported that someone had accessed her email account and sent out obscene emails to several persons on campus.
  • At 11:30PM a staff member reported that a bicyclist struck his vehicle as he was turning into the circle drive south of Heimenga Hall.  The staff member stated that the bicyclist got back on his bicycle and left the scene before the staff member could ask about his well being.

 WEDNESDAY 02-21-2007

  • At 4:40PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  A vehicle pulling into a parking space struck a parked vehicle in an adjacent space causing minor damage to the parked vehicle.

 THURSDAY 02-22-2007

  • At 2:35PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  A student had given blood earlier in the day and now was feeling light headed and dizzy.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to seek her own treatment at a later time if needed.
  • At 3:14PM Campus Safety investigated a report of threatening behavior toward a student.  The student was urged to seek a restraining order against the subject.

 FRIDAY 02-23-2007

  • At 5:00PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident at the Noordewier/VanderWerp Short Term parking lot.  A vehicle backing out of a parking space struck a vehicle parked along the roadway causing damage to both vehicles.

 SATURDAY 02-24-2007

  • At 12:55AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall.  A student was suffering from severe abdominal pain and difficulty in breathing.  An ambulance was requested and the victim was transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

 SUNDAY 02-25-2007

  • At 9:51PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  A student had been hit with glass from a broken window and was suffering from cuts and a possible eye injury.  An ambulance was requested and the victim was transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.
  • At 11:30PM staff at Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall reported a broken window in the VanDellen stairwell. The window was secured with a temporary patch and a work order was entered for glass replacement.

MONDAY 02-26-2007

  • At 10:42PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in DeVries Hall.  A student had fallen on the stairs and had suffered a back injury.  An ambulance was requested and the victim was transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 12:46PM a student reported that between 10:30AM and 11:30AM on Friday, 2-23-2007 he left his bag containing two text books in the Business Department computer lab in North Hall while he was across the hall talking to a professor.  The student stated that when he returned home he could not find the textbooks and believes they were taken from his bag while it was in the computer lab.  The student later reported finding the bag in another professor's office.

 TUESDAY 02-27-2007

  • At 12:42PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Chapel basement.  A student had lost consciousness.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to seek her own treatment if needed at a later time.
  • At 12:30PM the Food Service staff reported that sometime between 5:30PM on Monday, 2-26-07 and the morning of today's date the padlock was removed from the drink cooler in the staff dining room of the Commons Annex and several drink containers were missing.
  • At 4:00PM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident that was reported as occurring during the early morning hours of today's date along the campus roadway north of the Fieldhouse.  A vehicle had slid on the icy pavement and struck the guardrail causing damage to the front bumper of the vehicle.

 WEDNESDAY 02-28-2007

  • At 8:15AM staff in the field house reported that sometime between noon on Thursday, 2-22-2007 and noon on Friday, 2-23-2007 an Xbox was taken from a media cart located in the northwest corner of the Fieldhouse.
  • At 7:53PM a staff member reported that sometime between 11:30AM and 12:30PM on Monday, July 17, 2006 a data projector was taken from the basement of Beets/Veenstra Residence Hall.
