In order for you to effectively deter crime, you must know what the current crime trends are. Read the Campus Safety Report every week. It can also be found in the Chimes student newspaper. In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

FRIDAY 08-03-07

  • At 11:30AM Campus Safety received a request for medical assistance in Theta/Epsilon Residence Hall.  A resident had fallen in the stairwell and suffered an ankle injury.  The victim was transported by a family member to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.

  SATURDAY 08-04-2007

  • At 6:15PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance west of the Spoelhof College Center.  A visitor had fallen from his bicycle and had suffered a facial injury.  A victim was turned over to a family member at the scene.

  WEDNESDAY 08-08-2007

  • At 9:39PM a staff member reported that a piece of college owned equipment was misplaced while the staff member traveled from one part of campus to another.  A check of the area involved located the equipment.

TUESDAY 08-14-2007

  • At 9:00AM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Fine Arts Center Parking lot.  A vehicle exiting a parking space struck a vehicle in an adjacent parking space causing damage to both vehicles.
  • At 10:00AM a contractor working at the fieldhouse construction site reported that an employee had been detected removing college owned equipment from the site.  The equipment was returned and the employee terminated.

  THURSDAY 08-16-2007

  • At 12:15AM Campus Safety observed two unauthorized subjects operating golf carts in the parking area northwest of the Fieldhouse.  The subjects were stopped and identified.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

  FRIDAY 08-17-2007

  • At 9:02AM staff at Theta-Epsilon Residence Hall reported that sometime between 8PM on Tuesday, 8-14-2007 and 4PM on Wednesday, 8-15-2007 money was found missing from a cash box in the desk area.

MONDAY 08-20-2007

  • At 4:30PM a staff member reported that at 8:40AM he parked his vehicle in the west parking.  The staff member stated that when he returned to the vehicle at 4:30PM he found that someone had spray painted black colored letters on the left rear panel of his vehicle.

  TUESDAY 08-21-2007

  • At 8:45PM Campus Safety found where vehicles had driven through the fence at the north end of the construction drive and damaged fencing and signs.

MONDAY 08-27-2007

  • At 10:30AM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  A vehicle backing out of the loading dock struck a parked vehicle causing damage to the parked vehicle.
  • At 2:50PM Campus Safety took a vehicle damage report.  A visitor assisting a student to move into the residence hall reported that a shopping cart used to transport items to the residence hall rolled into a parked vehicle and caused damage to a front light.  A note was left on the vehicle for the owner to contact Campus Safety.

  WEDNESDAY 08-29-2007

  • At 3:35PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Prince Conference Center.  An employee was suffering from chest pains.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.

  THURSDAY 08-30-2007

  • At 2:20AM Campus Safety observed a suspicious person in the parking area of the Seminary Housing units.  The subject fled the area.  A check of the area showed several unlocked vehicles, one that appeared to have been entered. A backpack was found on the pavement near one of the vehicles.  Notices were left on the vehicles to contact Campus Safety to report any missing items.

  FRIDAY 08-31-2007

  • At 3:09PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons Annex.  A student had fallen in a stairwell.  The victim was evaluated and treated at the scene.
  • At 5:30PM a seminary student reported that at 3:30PM he locked his laptop in his cabinet in the library but left the laptop case on the desk.  When he returned at 5:30PM the laptop case was missing.
