In order for you to effectively deter crime, you must know what the current crime trends are. Read the Campus Safety Report every week. It can also be found in the Chimes student newspaper. In addition, listen to the local news for serious crime trends in the community. If you live off campus, you can also join Neighborhood Watch. This organization will inform you of crime trends in your area.

 FRIDAY 12-1-2006

  • At 3:40PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the west parking lot.  A vehicle traveling through the lot was struck by a vehicle backing out of a parking space causing damage to both vehicles.
  • At 3:50PM Campus Safety along with the residence hall staff investigated a report of a controlled substance in Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office. 

MONDAY 12-04-2006

  • At 1:25AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Boer/Bennink Residence Hall.  A student was complaining of light headedness after falling on the ice earlier in the evening.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to have a friend drive her to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.
  • At 2:52PM a student reported that sometime between 8:00AM and 2:40PM on today's date cash was taken from his unlocked residence hall room in Kalsbeek/Huizinga Residence Hall.

 TUESDAY 12-05-2006

  • At 3:50PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Science Building.  A student was complaining feeling dizzy.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a staff member transported the victim to Health Services for treatment.

 WEDNESDAY 12-06-2006

  • At 12:50PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident in the west campus roadway.  A vehicle turning into the parking lot was struck by a following vehicle causing minor damage to both vehicles. 
  • At 4:00PM a student reported that sometime since Friday, December 1, 2006 a coat was taken from her residence hall room closet.  The coat was described as a green, knee length peacoat.

 FRIDAY 12-08-2007

  • At 12:25AM four residents of Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall reported that in the last few months several items of clothing and an iPod Mini were taken from their unlocked residence hall rooms.
  • At 9:30AM a student reported that at 8:55AM he parked his vehicle in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  The student stated that when he returned to the vehicle at 9:30AM he found damage to the driver's side of the vehicle apparently caused by another vehicle entering or leaving the adjacent parking space.
  • At 3:47PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Schultze/Eldersveld Residence Hall. A student had suffered several facial lacerations from broken window glass.  The victim elected to have friends transport him to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 9:41PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Bolt Hall.  A student had suffered a mouth injury earlier in the evening.  The victim was treated at the scene.
  • At 11:08PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  A concert worker had suffered a leg injury.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to a local hospital for treatment.

 SATURDAY 12-09-2006

  • At 5:15AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 4:55AM and again at 1:17PM students reported receiving phone calls in their residence hall rooms from someone claiming to be from Campus Safety.  The caller asked the students to meet him in the lobby of their residence hall.  The students were told that no one from Campus Safety had called them and if they needed any verification of the validity of a call could contact the Campus Safety Dispatcher.
  • At 2:25PM a resident of Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall reported that sometime in the last month someone took a pair of Coach sunglasses from her unlocked room.

MONDAY 12-11-2006

  • At 9:18AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fine Arts Center.  A staff member had suffered an arm injury after falling near the north entrance to the Fine Arts Center.  The victim was evaluated at the scene.  Another staff member transported the victim to a Med Center for treatment.
  • At 1:21PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance west of the Commons.  A student had suffered an ankle injury while skateboarding.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to seek his own treatment at a later time if needed.
  • At 4:57PM a student reported that sometime after Thanksgiving Break she noticed that her hiking boots had been taken from her unlocked residence hall room in Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall. 

 TUESDAY 12-12-2006

  • At 6:40PM a resident of Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall reported that sometime in the last month a pair of shoes had been taken from her unlocked residence hall room.

 WEDNESDAY 12-13-2006

  • At 3:00AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Kalsbeek/Huizinga parking lot.  The information on the student involved was forwarded to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:39AM a student reported that on the evening of Tuesday, 12-12-2006 she left her purse unattended in the Fish House for 10-20 minutes and when she returned the purse was missing.

 THURSDAY 12-14-2006

  • At 5:10AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Beets/Veenstra Residence Hall.  The information on the student involved was forwarded to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 9:48AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Science Building.  A student had lost consciousness.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to return to her residence hall room and seek treatment if needed at a later time.

 SATURDAY 12-16-2006

  • At 3:38AM Campus Safety observed a vehicle parked on the walkway near the southbound East Beltline exit.  A female subject was observed in the vehicle.  The subject was unresponsive.  EMS and the Grand Rapids Police responded to the scene.  The subject was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired.
  • At 11:50AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Fine Arts Center parking lot.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

MONDAY 12-18-2006

  • At 10:34AM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Heritage Hall.  A faculty member had fallen and had suffered lacerations to his arm.  A staff member agreed to transport the victim to a Med Center for treatment.

 WEDNESDAY 12-20-2006

  • At 12:25AM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident on the roadway near Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall.  A vehicle struck a street sign causing minor damage to the sign and the vehicle.

 WEDNESDAY 12-27-2006

  • At 7:13AM a campus visitor reported that several times in the morning as she was walking near the Fieldhouse when a suspicious male subject would come from the wooded area and begin to follow her.  The visitor reported that the person was described as older male subject with a beard.  The visitor stated that she had not seen the subject this morning.

 SATURDAY 12-30-2006

  • At 7:40PM a student reported that at 11:30PM on Friday, 12-29-2006 she had parked her vehicle in the lot north of Theta/Epsilon Residence Hall.  The student stated that when she returned to her vehicle at 7:30AM on today's date she found the CD player missing from the vehicle.  The student also stated that one of the rear doors of the vehicle was not locked.
