Off Campus Residential Burglaries
The Campus Safety Department has been made aware of at least four burglaries to student’s off campus residences in the neighborhoods surrounding Calvin College. These reported incidents have happened over the course of the last month. Burglaries to student’s residences have occurred in the 3800 blk. of Camelot Drive, the 3000 blk. of Burton Street, the 2600 blk. of Ardmore Street and the 2500 blk. of Ridgemoor Drive SE. In most of the cases the suspect entered through a door or by cutting a screen and then entering a window. Common items stolen include, cash, jewelry, computers and other electronic items. In most of the incidents victims were not home, but in at least one case a student was home when the burglary occurred.
In one of the incidents a suspect was observed. They are described as a black male, 5’10”, thin build with a dark complexion. The suspect appeared to be in their late 20’s to early 30’s. Their hair was in corn rolls and they were wearing silver glasses and a blue fleece coat.
Be sure to lock all windows and doors to your residence. Encourage your roommates to do the same. Be sure to keep all valuables out of sight and when possible lock them up in some type of personal safe. Also make sure to use a cable lock if you have a lap top computer. If you see someone acting suspiciously, looking in windows or doors or attempting to enter a residence through a window or back sliding door call 911 and report the suspicious behavior .
