March 2007

THURSDAY 03-01-2007

  • At 4:10AM a staff member reported that at 11:00PM on Thursday, 2-28-2007 he parked his vehicle in the lot near the Hekman Library.  The staff member stated that when he returned to the vehicle around 4:00AM he found the rear window of the vehicle completely shattered.  Nothing appeared missing from the vehicle.

FRIDAY 03-02-2007

  • At 11:40AM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident on the campus roadway near the Rooks/VanDellen short term parking lot.  A vehicle backing out of a parking space struck a vehicle waiting on the roadway causing damage to the waiting vehicle.
  • At 11:56AM CIT reported that at 10:26AM a faculty member reported to them that a 17" flat panel monitor was missing from North Hall room 165.  The report indicated that it appeared that the computer CPU was tampered with but was still secured to the media cart.
  • At 1:25PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Heimenga Hall.  A student was reported as suffering from nausea and abdominal pain.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.
  • At 5:40PM Campus Safety responded to a request from the Housing staff to mediate a dispute between a student and a non student friend.  The non student was asked to leave campus.
  • At 9:00PM Campus Safety investigated a two vehicle accident 0n the campus roadway near the Boer/Bennink short term parking lot.  A south bound vehicle slid on the icy roadway and struck a vehicle parked on the roadway causing damage to both vehicles.

  SATURDAY 03-03-2007

  • At 10:40AM Campus Safety responded to a request from medical assistance in the west parking lot.  A visitor had slipped in the parking lot and had fallen on the pavement.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to have a friend come and transport her back home.  The victim states she would seek her own treatment at a later time if needed.

  SUNDAY 03-04-2007

  • At 2:32PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A student had suffered an ankle injury.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to have friends transport her to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.
  • At 4:00PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A visitor had suffered a knee injury.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and elected to transport himself home and to seek treatment at a later time if needed.

MONDAY 03-05-2007

  • At 7:29PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Rooks/VanDellen Residence Hall.  A student was reported to have suffered several seizures.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Blodgett for treatment.

  TUESDAY 03-06-2007

  • At 5:54PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in North Hall.  A faculty member had fallen on the ice in the parking lot and had suffered a head and back injury.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and arranged for a family member to transport her to a Med Center for treatment.

  WEDNESDAY 03-07-2007

  • At 11:02PM a student worker in the Fieldhouse stated that at 10:00PM on today's date he left his coat in the Weight Room.  The student stated that at 10:45PM he returned for the coat and found it missing.  The coat was later discovered with other clothing articles that had been removed from the Weight Room when it closed and stored in the Equipment Room.

  FRIDAY 03-09-2007

  • At 8:45AM a staff member in Student Development reported that sometime in the last 8 weeks money was taken from a desk drawer in the Commons Annex.
  • At 12:33PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Knollcrest Dining Hall.  A staff member was reported to have lost consciousness.  The victim was evaluated and treated at the scene.  The victim elected to have a family member transport her home.

SATURDAY 03-10-2007

  • At 2:05AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the Boer/Bennink parking lot involving a non Calvin student.
  • At 5:35PM Campus Safety investigated damage done to four resident hall doors.  The locking mechanisms were damaged and the doors could not be secured.  Maintenance was contacted and repaired the damage.
  • At 8:00PM a student reported that he had just discovered that a tire pump was missing from his bicycle which had been stored in the Beets/Veenstra bike room since last Fall.

  SUNDAY 03-11-2007                                                     

  • At 1:30PM a student reported that on the morning of Saturday, 3-10-2007 he left his laptop computer unattended in the basement study room of Huizinga Residence Hall.  The student stated that when he returned for the laptop around noon on Saturday the laptop was missing.  The laptop was described as a Dell Inspiron 5100.
  • At 6:07PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons Dining Hall.  A student was reported to have suffered an allergic reaction.  The victim was evaluated at the scene and a friend agreed to transport the victim to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.

MONDAY 03-12-2007

  • At 9:30AM a staff member at the Seminary reported that at 8:30AM on today's date a retired faculty member from the Seminary had slipped on some ice on the walkway northwest of the Seminary Building and had suffered a hand injury.  The victim was reported to have sought his own treatment.
  • At 10:10PM a staff member reported that at 8:30PM on today's date he had parked his vehicle in the lot near the Hekman Library.  The staff member stated that when he returned to his vehicle at 10:00PM on today's date the license plate was missing from his vehicle.
  • A Grounds Department staff member reported that sometime between 3:00PM on Thursday, 3-8-07 and 3:00PM on Saturday, 3-10-2007 someone removed cleaning supplies from the wash bay in the Printing and Mail Services Building .

  TUESDAY 03-13-2007

  • At 12:30PM Campus Safety observed a student crossing the Beltline east of the Knollcrest Dining Hall.  The student was identified and the information turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 6:45PM Campus Safety investigated a report of a possible threatening communication posted by a student.  The information was turned over to the Resident Director for follow up.

  WEDNESDAY 03-14-2007

  • At 3:45AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the parking area at Knollcrest East.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 4:00PM a student reported that on Monday 3-12-2007 she discovered that money was missing from her purse which she kept in her unlocked residence hall room in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.

  THURSDAY 03-15-2007

  • At 6:58PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Johnny's Café.   A student was reported to with nausea and was having difficulty breathing.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

  FRIDAY 03-16-2007

  • At 3:00AM a student at the KE Apartments reported an unknown subject knocked on the slider in the study room at Gamma Hall.  The student stated she let the unknown person into the building and then realized that the subject did not live in the building.  The subject was located and found to be intoxicated.  The Grand Rapids Police were contacted and responded to campus and removed the subject.
  • At 12:15PM a student reported that at 10:30PM on Thursday, 3-15-2007 he parked his vehicle in the Knollcrest East parking lot south of Zeta/Lambda Residence Hall.  The student stated that when he returned to the vehicle at 12:00PM on today's date he found damage to the front bumper and grill of his vehicle apparently caused by another vehicle.
  • At 4:57PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Theta/Epsilon Residence Hall.  A student had suffered a finger laceration.  The victim was transported to Spectrum Health Blodgett by a staff member for treatment.

  TUESDAY 03-20-2007

  • At 1:25AM Campus Safety investigated a report of an exit alarm sounding at the northwest exit door of VanderWerp Residence Hall.  The building was checked and nothing was found.

  WEDNESDAY 03-21-2007

  • At 4:55AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy and a violation of the campus open house policy in Gamma Residence Hall.  The information on the student involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

  Friday 03-23-2007

  • At 2:00AM Campus Safety investigated a report of a threat made toward a guest of a student in Delta Residence Hall.  The subjects were located and identified.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

  SUNDAY 03-25-2007

  • At 6:22PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Commons Food Service Kitchen.  A student worker had lacerated her finger.  A Food Service Supervisor agreed to transport the victim to a med center for treatment.

  TUESDAY 03-27-2007

  • At 1:15AM Campus Safety investigated a report of fireworks being shot off at the baseball diamond area.  The area was checked and nothing was found.
  • At 2:30AM Campus Safety investigated a report of loud music from an apartment in Phi/Chi Residence Hall.  The persons responsible for the music were located and stated the music was left on inadvertently.
  • At 10:0AM a maintenance staff member reported that her vehicle had been parked on campus from 5:30AM to 2:30AM on Friday 3-16-2007.  The owner stated that she had not noticed any damage at that time but when she went to use the vehicle again she found damage on the passenger side of the vehicle which she believes occurred while the vehicle was last parked on campus.
  • Grand Rapids Police Department informed Campus Safety that a non student had filed a report stating that he left his cell phone unattended in the men's locker room of the Fieldhouse from 4PM to 6PM on Monday, 3-26-2007.  The report stated that when the owner returned for the cell phone it was missing.
  • Campus Safety investigated a report of harassing phone calls made to a housing staff member.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.

  WEDNESDAY 03-28-2007

  • At 4:30PM Campus Safety investigated a single vehicle accident in the East Beltline parking lot.  A vehicle struck a concrete bench causing damage to the driver's side of the vehicle.

  FRIDAY 03-30-2007

  • At 6:33PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the soccer field north of the Fieldhouse.  A lacrosse player had suffered a knee injury.  An assistant coach agreed to transport the victim to Metro Health Hospital for treatment.

  SATURDAY 03-31-2007

  • At 2:19AM Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in Noordewier/VanderWerp Residence Hall.  The information on the students involved was turned over to the Judicial Affairs Office.
  • At 8:42PM Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in the Fieldhouse.  A subject had fainted and was now complaining of being very nauseous.  An ambulance was requested and the victim transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.
