Pre-Marital WorkshopFebruary 23 and March 1 A workshop led by Randy Wolthuis, Ph.D that will introduce couples to keys for vibrant marriages. The workshop will be based upon the latest findings in research and Christian principles for relationships. Eating Disorders Support GroupA support group is being offered this semester for women students who struggle with issues surrounding anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating, compulsive overeating, or disordered eating. Welcome, also, are students who may have overcome the eating disorder behaviors but still struggle with the enslaving mentality. Others may be having a relapse. Others may not have actually been diagnosed with an eating disorder, but would like this kind of help. Although participants may be dealing with differing forms of an eating disorder, we will aim to focus on what participants have in common. We will not talk so much about the various symptom behaviors, but about the underlying struggles, such as low self-esteem, perfectionism, handling stress, becoming more self-aware, dealing with emotions, conflict, overly pleasing others, and relationships. The leader will use some handouts to prompt discussion and will do a minimal amount of “teaching.” Most of the emphasis will be on interaction and support among the participants. Tuesdays, 3:30 – 4:30 pm To register, call 6-6123 Led by Anamarie Joosse, Counselor Broene Educational TeamDiscussion group for Gay and Lesbian students. Taking Control GroupThis group is for students who are having difficulty as a result of their substance use and who would benefit from exploring the impact of alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs in their lives. The group consists of students who voluntarily choose to attend as well as those who are mandated to attend as a result of alcohol violations. A confidential and supportive environment is provided. The group meets on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 at the Broene Counseling Center, beginning September 10, 2007. Meetings will continue throughout the academic year. Students may enter and leave the group at anytime during the year. To register, or for questions, contact Cindy Kok, Ph.D., at 526-6123 or ckok@calvin.edu
