16012 Understanding the Religious and Spiritual Lives of Emerging Adults in the U.S. Smith, Christian 10/8/2009 How important is religion for young people in America today? What are the major influences on their developing spiritual lives? How do their religious beliefs and practic es change as young people enter into adulthood?
Sociologist Christian Smith explores these questions
about the religious and spiritual lives of emerging adults,
ages 18 to 24, in the U.S. today. Based on interviews with
thousands of young p eople tracked over a five-year period,
Smith’s research shows how the religious practices of the
adolescents are strengthened, challenged, and changed as
they have moved into adulthood. Smith also describes the

shapes their religious outlooks, and what the consequences

16082 Unity Within Diversity: Myth or Reality? Chacour, Elias 1/26/2010 As a child, Elias Chacour lived in a small Palestinian village in Galilee. The townspeople were proud of their ancient Christian heritage and lived at peace with their Jewi sh neighbors. But in 1948 and ’49 their idyllic lifestyle was swept away as tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed and nearly one million were forced into refugee camps. As an exile in his native land, Elias began a years-long struggle with his love for the Jewish people and the world’s misunderstanding of his own people, the Palestinians. He is convicted by the haunting words of the Man of Galilee: “Blessed are the Peacemakers”. Father Chacour has become an ambassador f or non-violence. He has a vision and passion to build peace through education and is the founder of the Mar Elias Educational Institutions, open to all the children of Israel; Jewish, Christian and Muslim. He has received many international peace awards and been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on three occasions. He is the author of Blood Brothers and We Belong to this Land. Father Chacour is the Archbishop of the Melkite Chatholic Church in Haifa, Israel.

13612 Upside-Down Brilliance Silverman, Linda 1/17/2006 Dr. Silverman is world-renown as the leading expert on visual-spatial learners, in fact, she coined the term. The VSL is a person who thinks primarily in pictures and includ es roughly 1/3 of the population and cuts across racial and ethnic lines. She is a practicing educational psychologist and the founder of the Institute for advanced Studies and the Gifted Development Center in Denver, Colorado. She is the author of “ ;Upside-down Brilliance: The Visual Spatial Learner.” Why is this topic so important? Images are the way of the future. Images create reality. The image makers, the visionaries, will be our leaders. The gifts of the visually-spatial are vitally need ed in the 21st century. However, in school the VSL is often made to feel defective if they lack the reading, spelling, grammar, calculation, memorization, handwriting, word-finding, sequential, organizational and time skills that are so valued in educatio n.
