We know better than to fear all Arabs and those who look like them . . . and yet that's exactly what we're doing. Three guests relate their experiences: professor Adel Abadeer , business owner Basel Shatara, and Kentwood Chief of Police Richard Mattice.

#503 RAINFOREST UPDATE
The trouble with an environmental awareness success is that people get tired of any danger that isn’t solved within a year or so. Where does that leave global warming? The rainforests? Still a problem. Economic botanist Sir Gillian Prance discusses with host Shirley Hoogstra the physical, economic, and spiritual nature of what’s going on.

#501 RATINGS-DRIVEN TV NEWS
How would you like your job to be a continual popularity contest? Although he distinguished his poetic and priestly vocations, he also linked them, wedd ing the tightly constructed sonnet form to disciplined Ignatian meditation practices. The resulting prayer-poems draw us deeply into the incarnational reality that Hopkins felt so keenly. Campus Store (college) : Available for sale.

14591 Reading Scripture with Our Foremothers Taylor, Marion 3/4/2008 Women have been thoughtful readers of scripture throughout the ages, yet the history of interpretation has not included their voices. Prof. Taylor will introduce us to the t reasures that are discovered when we seek to uncover these forgotten writings. Authors such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Christina Rossetti, Josephine Butler, Grace Aquilar and many others have much to teach us about the Bible.
Marion Taylor is Professor of Old Testament at Wycliffe College, Toronto School of Theology.

13609 Reading the Bible in the Global South Jenkins, Philip 1/12/2006 Distinguished Professor of History and Religious Studies at Pennsylvania State University, Phillip Jenkins is the author of many books including "The Next Christendom: The Rise of Global Christianity" and "Hidden Gospels: How the Search for Jesus Lost Its Way". In "The Next Christendom" and in his presentation on The January Series, Jenkins will discuss the ways the Bible is read in the churches of the global South - in Africa and Asia - and how those readings reveal a deep estrangement between the dominant forms of Chirstianity in the global North and South. He states that Southern churches are using the Bible with a freshness and authenticity that simply cannot be achieved by the prosperous societies of the global North.

14638 Reading to "Become" Muth, Jon 4/17/2008 In writing stories, we invite others to feel the world in the same way we do. In reading stories, we participate in a powerful conjuring experience. When these actions are c onsidered in relation to children, there is an added profundity and an important responsibility. It's important that kids read to "become," not just to escape. Muth talks about how he tries to help kids do this through his own work. None : Archive/Available for Research
