14246 Naturalism, Nanotechnology, and Our "Post-human" Future: A Reformed Perspective Adams, Charles 2/22/2007 Advances in technology at the end of the twentieth century have provoked some scholars to predict a future where humans and computers merge to evolve an immortal, post- human 'life form' that is free and capable of defining its own 'nature.' Others react against such 'brave new world' scenarios with horror at the prospect of 'losing our essential humanity.' What does it mean to be human? What are the limitations and t he potential of technology with respect to shaping our humanity? This lecture will begin to offer answers to those questions by contrasting a Reformed Christian worldview with the worldviews of naturalism and by suggesting how elements of naturalistic wo rldviews have too often corrupted Christian worldviews on science and technology.

10738 Neighborhood Church, The Geary, Maureen; Jacobsen, Eric 9/5/2002 #302 THE NEIGHBORHOOD CHURCH
What do you know about the church closest to your house? Chances are, not much. Today most churches have forgotten the art of connecting with their neighborhoods. They are quick to leave city neighborhoods for "bigger, better" buildings in the suburbs. Eric Jacobsen, author of Sidewalks in the Kingdom: New Urbanism and the Christian Faith, and Sister Maureen Geary of the Catholic Dio cese of Grand Rapids offer their ideas on why.

14283 Night with Sietze Buning, A Buning, Sietze 4/13/2007 The regular Wiersma lecture at Calvin College will take on a slightly different format for 2007 as several of Wiersma's former friends and collegues present an evening of re adings from his best work.

Wiersma was a former Calvin College English professor and prolific author who penned often autobiographical writings under the nom de plume Sietze Buning.

Thus on April 13, at 7:30 pm in the Chapel at Calvin Theolo gical Seminary there will be "An Evening with Sietze Buning," what is being billed as a free evening of entertainment and enlightenment.

A colorful cast of dramatic readers will present the best of Buning's "Purpaleanie" and &qu ot;Style and Class." The event will be followed by a social hour with refreshments and it is sponsored by the Wiersma Literary Endowment.
Read a well-known Buning poem »

Wiersma, who was known for his poetry, and for his encouragement of young Christian authors, died suddenly in 1986 while on sabbatical in the Netherlands. The Wiersma Literary Endowment was established by Wiersma family and friends in 1988 to encourage Christians in the reading, writing and publication of excellent lit erature.

Friends of Wiersma say the endowment was set up not only to honor him, but also to perpetuate the kind of conversations he would have enjoyed.

11972 No Bible-Beating Allowed House, Silas 4/23/2004 This session explores how the integration of faith in literature is best accomplished by subtlety,
a trait that all good writers should employ in the first place. House w ill also explore why many
modern writers are not asked about — or simply don't talk about — their religious beliefs in
their writing and in interviews.

16035 No Frills Revue Freeberg, Debra L. 11/11/2009 This modern musical follows the style of the satirical revues of the 1950’s, with original songs and short-form comedy. It includes a sketch about onomatopoetic names and a song about the terrors of a high school reunion, a sketch about extravagant rock concerts that benefit obscure causes, and a clever little ditty about Ginsu knives! Of course, it also contains the obligatory tap dance number and some intriguing R 20;first drafts” of well-known musicals, including Annie as it might have been, were it written by Stephen Sondheim!

The No-Frills Revue is a musical “Saturday Night Live!”
