13402 J.S. Bach Week Dying with Christ, Rising with Christ
4/17/2000 J.S. Bach Week: For J.S. Bach, music was never an end in itself. It was a means to praise God and to proclain god's word. The fact that he inscribed every composition with t he words Soli Deo Gloria is only on sign of his intent. Especially in his music for worship, Bach saw himself not only as a musical craftsperson, but also as a prophetic exegete of scripture and a priestly leader of prayer. In this week of prayerful refle ction on the life, death and ressurection of Jesus Christ, we receive this music not as an end in itself, but as a profound and rich resource for helping us enter into the mystery of God's love for us in Christ. 12384 Jane Eyre Page, Michael 11/10/2004 When Jane Eyre was first published in 1847 it created a sensation: it was, one reviewer exclaimed, a book "to make the pusle gallop and the heart beat." And most would agree that it still does. Polly Teale's adaptation, made in 1998 for the London theatre company, Shared Experience, dramatically shows why.
It is more than just a transfer of the book to stage. Following the ground-breaking critical book, The Madwoman in the Attic, it presents Rochester's first wife, Bertha, as the passionate alter ego of Jane herself. The result is a powerful and original work of theatre which, through startling imagery and intense action, recreates the interior life of one o f the most beloved of all novels.

183 Jefferson's Legacy: A Call to Civic Responsibility Rimel, Rebecca 1/24/2000 In 1948, when The Pew Charitable Trusts was established, grantmaking was closer to a personal act of charity. Today's world has greater needs, tougher problems and more comp etition for resources. Grantmaking, accordingly, is closer to a strategic investment with the return measured not in profits, but in long-lasting, positive and powerful results. One result the Trust seeks is the greater engagement of Americans in the civi c process of democracy. Rebecca Rimel is president and chief executive officer for The Pew Charitable Trusts. The Trusts, with more than $4.7 billion in assets, invested more than $213 million in 298 nonprofit organizations in 1998. Heritage Hall : Available for sale. Heritage Hall : Available for sale. 12538 Jesus' Politics Storkey, Dr. Alan 3/2/2005 Dr. Storkey explores the political significance of Jesus which emerges from the Gospels. His work and studies have confirmed to him that Jesus is the most important politi cal figure in world history and that the political content of the Gospel texts is often both severely understated and superficially seen.
Dr. Storkey has worked for several decades in the disciplines of politics, sociology and economics. He co-founde d the Movement for Christian Democracy, based in Great Britain, and has taught for twenty years at Oak HIll Theological College in London.

13853 Jim Crow's Last Stand: The Struggle for Civil Rights in the Suburban North Sugrue, Thomas
Thomas J. Sugrue is the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Professor of History and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Drawing from his book, Professor Sugrue wil l discuss the largely unknown Northern battlegrounds where grassroots activists fought to end discrimination and segregation: the rapidly expanding postwar suburbs. While the conventional narratives of civil rights in America have focused on the heroic ba ttles of the South, "Jim Crow's Last Stand" turns our focus North to recount the victories and defeats of those who fought to open suburbia to people of all races.

13670 Joe Ehrmann: Live at Calvin College Ehrmann, Joe 1/12/2006 Joe Ehrmann and "Building Men for Others" are convinced that one of the greatest crises in America centers on the issue of masculinity and its correlating theme s of boyhood, manhood, husbandry and fatherhood.
The convergence of his experience as a pastor, child advocate, professional speaker, former NFL football player and high school coach, and years of working with men have prepared Joe to address this c risis.
