14124 When Were You Robbed? Gay, Doug 1/26/2007 This workshop reflects on the rise of Alternative Worship in the UK over almost two decades, which has led at different times to both sublime and ridiculous innovations in w orship practice. While recognizing that a diversity of worship 'tribes' is likely to persist within our churches, Doug argues that alternative/emerging worship practice is a key indicator of the future shape of Reformed worship in both the UK and North Am erica.

10738 Neighborhood Church, The Geary, Maureen; Jacobsen, Eric 9/5/2002 #302 THE NEIGHBORHOOD CHURCH
What do you know about the church closest to your house? Chances are, not much. Today most churches have forgotten the art of connecting with their neighborhoods. They are quick to leave city neighborhoods for "bigger, better" buildings in the suburbs. Eric Jacobsen, author of Sidewalks in the Kingdom: New Urbanism and the Christian Faith, and Sister Maureen Geary of the Catholic Dio cese of Grand Rapids offer their ideas on why.

11741 Moral Crisis of the Telecosm, The Gilder, George 1/7/2004 The many telecom bankruptcies of the last two years are often ascribed to greed and graft. Yet many of the leaders of the industry, such as Bernie Ebbers of WorldCom, are ac tive and devout Christians. Are they hypocrites? Or is the story of the recent crash far more complex and intriguing than the press and courts have revealed? George Gilder, chairman of Gilder Publishing, LLC, editor of the Gilder Technology Report and aut hor of several books including the bestseller Wealth and Poverty, addresses the moral sources of the telecom crash and the new telecosmic revival now under way. In his futuristic thinking about technology, he draws together science, business history, soci al analysis and prediction to make sense of the titanic changes afoot in our lives. 14492 Imaginative Reading for Creative Preaching Gloer, W. Hulitt; Plantinga, Jr., Cornelius J. 1/25/2008 People often assume that preachers who read widely are on the prowl for illustrations. These people are right. Preachers are hunter-gatherers, searching not only the world&# 8217;s literary masterworks but also contemporary fiction, journalism, and biography. But preachers are not merely in search of useful stories. Reading deepens the preacher’s knowledge of human cries of the heart. In fact, the preacher’s readi ng deepens preaching because it deepens the preacher. In this workshop, Neal Plantinga and Hulitt Gloer will discuss their highly successful "Imaginative Reading for Creative Preaching" seminar, which the two have co-led the last five years as a multi-week summer program. This workshop will help participants begin to explore the possibilities and homiletical impact of engaging in an ongoing, vigorous program of reading for preaching.
