10918 Emma Calvin Theater Company 4/3/2003 The Calvin Theatre Company presents the American premiere of a
new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, EMMA. Hailed as Austen's masterpiece of romance and self-de lusion, EMMA is a mystery without a murder, a detective story without a villain. It is a humorously entertaining work that exposes the mystery and delight of falling in love. The young heroine is as charming as can be, but always too clever for her own go od. In this beautifully crafted adaptation of the novel, we see into Emma's motivations and the troubled mind of a woman who is truly in love, but doesn't know it yet. Directed by Stephanie Sandberg.

11880 Engaging With God: Thinking Worship from a Biblical-Theological Perspective Peterson, David 1/29/2004 Many of our discussions about worship are focused on the form and content of church services, without reference to the wider perspective of Scripture. In practice we narrow our definition of worship to prayer and praise and forget about the big picture: the fulfillment of Old Testament ideals in the person and work of Christ, making it possible for us to serve and honor God in the context of everyday life. In effect, the gos pel is all about right worship! To get the most out of this seminar, you are encouraged to read/bring his book Engaging with God: A Biblical Theology of Worship (IVP, 2002). What difference would alien intelligent life make to our Christology? After presenti ng a "mutuality" model for the relationship between theology and natural sciences (as developed in my 2003 book) I will explore these questions, using astrobiology and Christology as my example of mutuality.

#808 EQUALITY OR EQUITY? DEFINING JUSTICE Originally broadcast Jan. 20, 2008
We're uncomfortable with the idea of inequality, yet we see it all around us, even in nature. Do we need to get more specific with our concerns about justice? Michelle Loyd-Paige, dean of multicultural affairs at Calvin College, suggests to host Karen Saupe a closer look at the term equity.

13499 Essential Taylor Taylor, Gardner C.
Few can preach a sermon like Gardner C. Taylor, an undisputed master of the art. No wonder that Time Magazine has dubbed him "Dean of the Nation's Black Preachers." ; Garnder Taylor's voice is on that must be heard, not only for the genius of his thinking but also for the sheer artistry of his presentation: an elegant voice that rises and falls with his message, his brilliant use of stories and metaphors, his unparal leled senbse of time and use of the "dramatic pause." The sermons and messages in Essential Taylor, taken from Judson Press's five-volume series, The Words of Garner Taylor, span five decades of Dr. Taylor's ministry. These messages will ministe r to the soul and inspire listeners to want to hear them again and again. Heritage Hall : Archive/Available for Research

10543 Ethiopia Shall Soon Stretch Out Their Hands Unto God Walls, Andrew 7/17/2002 Christianity has a history in Africa that is two thousand years long. Afro-America has played a crucial part in a substantial period of that history. There was a time when the majority of African Christians lived in the Americas, and when these saw themselves as the key to the regeneration of the African Continent. The lecture traces the involvement of Christians of the African diaspora in the evangelization of the Americ as, the story of how they produced the first Protestant Church in the tropical Africa, their place as the forefront of nineteenth century missions in much of Africa, and their impact on African educational and economic development. As the day progresses, we anticipate discussions of a cluster of significant themes in emerging church life—from consumerism, conversion, hermeneutics, to ecclesiology, eschatology, deconstruction, and postmodernism—that promise to challenge all participants to deepen their own framework for ministry. Participants will be sent some reading ahead of time with an invitation to ask questions during this day of presentations, video segments, responses, and Q&A. Come to contribute to the conversation.
