Making CD and DVD Labels

The AV Department will create a basic label to print onto a disc we make for you.
If you want to design your own art for the label, go for it!
Here is what you need to do:

1. Create the label using the CMYK color palette, which you can do with Photoshop
__Do NOT use the RGB palette.
2. Give us a file with your label in a square space which is 4.6” x 4.6”.
__-Square means don’t cut off the corners to make a circle.
__-Don't include a circle to show the outside edge or center hole.
__-We will make it fit the label area of the disc.
3. Save it at 240 to 300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution.
4. Save it as a .jpg file and with little or no compression.

Here are some logos you may use. Right-click on them to copy.

If you want to design a label for a jewel case, here are Word .doc templates.

The trimmed size of a jewel case rear label is usually 4-5/8” high by 5-5/8” wide
(1/4” of the width folds to become the spine label).
The trimmed size of a jewel case front label is 4-3/4" high by 4-3/4" wide.
You can design in whatever program you want or just add your text and images to this template.

If you want to design a DVD box label, here are Word .doc templates.

The trimmed size of a DVD box label is usually 7-3/16” high by 10-11/16” wide
(1/2” of the width in the center is the spine).
You can design in whatever program you want or just add your text and images to this template.

An inexpensive way to print a color label for the case is to send it to Calvin College Printing Services, which is located next to the Physical Plant building on the north end of campus. You can save money by having them print 2 labels per sheet onto larger paper.
If you have them ICM the labels to the AV Department after they are trimmed, we will assemble them for you.

Understand at the outset that the disc label and the case label are printed using separate printing processes and types of ink, so the colors won't be exact matches.
