Music as a Calling

Is making music merely a pleasant, but useless, activity? A little reflection should make one realize that music is not marginal. It is everywhere. We live in a society that is saturated with music and it does more than provide diversion from the real business of life. It has power to move us and shape us.

If music shapes our lives, our world needs skillful Christians with discerning minds making, performing, teaching, promoting, disseminating, and preserving music; music that helps shape us into Christ-like patterns and our broken world into the patterns of His Kingdom. To that end the Calvin College Music Department is dedicated to developing your skills and nurturing your mind.
