Overview

The missions area of emphasis in the ministry leadership minor features six courses. You can choose to pair a minor in ministry leadership with nearly any other academic program—whether you're studying to be an engineer or a violinist, this minor will help prepare you to do God's work in a variety of countries.

Student involvement

Join Voice for Missions; go on a spring break trip with the Service-Learning Center; volunteer within the Grand Rapids Community at schools, churches, blood banks, hospitals, senior centers and more; intern at a local church or non-profit organization; help plan the Faith and International Development Conference.

Dr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Bratt Medical and Missions Scholarship
  • award amount: $2,200
  • junior or senior
  • GPA of 3.00+
  • financial need is considered; pursuing a pre-med program; interest in service to the poor and needy; plan to enter a career in missions or mission related work either within the USA or abroad

John and Marjorie Cooper Family Scholarship
  • award amount: $2,000
  • junior or senior
  • GPA of 3.00+
  • financial need is considered; pursuing an undergraduate program; dedicated to the cause of Christian missions

Eugene and Joan Deur Scholarship
  • award amount: $2,000
  • sophomore or junior
  • GPA of 3.00+
  • financial need is considered; pursuing a program in education, a pre-ministry program or missions

Spalink Memorial Missions Scholarship
  • award amount: $800
  • sophomore, junior or senior
  • GPA of 2.50+
  • financial need is considered; interest in a missionary vocation; preference is given to members of the Christian Reformed Church who aspire to a career with that church's missions
  • apply through the Calvin Portal
Jennie and Sylvia Stielstra Scholarship
  • award amount: $2,300
  • any class level
  • HS GPA 3.00+; Calvin GPA 2.70+
  • financial need is considered; intending to serve in either elementary education or in missions; preference is given to children of missionaries; demonstrate Christian character and promise of grown through participation and leadership in activities outside the classroom such as community, church, and extra-curricular school activities
  • prospective students submit a letter to the Financial Aid Office (finaid@calvin.edu) describing your qualifications by February 1; returning students apply through the Calvin Portal
Joseph and Ralph Gelmer Vander Laan Memorial Scholarship
  • award amount: $2,200
  • junior or senior
  • GPA of 2.50+
  • financial need is considered; pursuing a program in the health professions; preference is given to those with an interest in medical missions
