This course is a study of the politics and governments of the African states. The course examines why some states make better progress towards the goals of stability, democratization and soci-economic development than others. Specific issues studied are military rule, corruption, ethnic and religious strife, poverty, population growth, environmental threats, human rights (including women?s rights), and the AIDS pandemic.
