Scholarships for new students
New students are automatically considered for academic scholarships based on a careful review of their application materials. Award notices are sent to selected students shortly after they are admitted to Calvin.
Scholarships for current students
During 2023-2024, 106 scholarships for a total of $454,675 were awarded to education students! If you are eligible, be sure to apply.
For questions concerning the application process, contact the education department: Shawna Huls, shawna.huls@calvin.edu.
Because many of the scholarships require some financial need, it is important that you explain your financial situation in the application, especially if you did not submit a FAFSA or Calvin's Financial Aid office determined that you did not have any need after receiving academic scholarships this current year. Contact Shawna Huls at shawna.huls@calvin.edu or (616) 526-6105 if you have questions.
Eligibility:
In order to be considered for education department scholarships, you must:
- Have completed EDUC-202 or EDUC-241.
- Have selected an Education major and/or minor in workday.
- Have a junior or senior standing as of September of the scholarship year.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Anything less will prevent you from being a serious contender. Please also note that most scholarships require a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- International and Post-BA candidates are welcome to apply.
- Candidates must be enrolled full-time (12-18 semester hours) at least one semester in the upcoming academic year (fall and/or spring) to be eligible for scholarships. The application will ask for your full-time status for each semester. If you are only full-time one semester, you are eligible for a half scholarship.
Michigan Educator Grants
Calvin students may be eligible for Michigan’s Future Educator Fellowship and Future Educator Student Teacher Stipend. Application information and deadlines will be emailed to students who are enrolled in the Education Program.
TEACH grant
The TEACH Grant is a federal program that provides grants to students who plan to teach full time in high-need subject areas at schools serving students from low-income families.
How to apply for scholarships
The application forms for named scholarships are available every year beginning December 1 and must be submitted by January 31. All students who will be enrolled next academic year are encouraged to apply (including newly admitted students and international students). Complete one scholarship application, and you will be automatically considered for all scholarships that match your eligibility.
