As a leader in the community, he served as a board member and volunteer with several not-for-profits. He loved his family, his work and his employees, colleagues and clients. He saw his role in business and within the wider community as one of service to God and neighbors. Ed was an extraordinarily gifted man and he was blessed in his life with many successes, but he acknowledged that these blessings came from God's hand and not his own and that he had been entrusted with them so that he could share them with others. He was known to offer encouragement, wise counsel and soft-spoken challenges. As he was preparing to leave this world Ed said, "It has always been my prayer that others can see God's grace by how I live."

James and Barbara Haveman Family Scholarship

Jim and Barb Haveman and their family are deeply committed to Christian education from the elementary level through college. They both attended Calvin as did Jim's mother, Catherine Boonstra Haveman. Their two children graduated from Calvin and now they are happy to see grandchildren attend as well. This four-generation Calvin family believes in the college's Christ-centered mission, and would like to bless students with the opportunity to attend Calvin to pursue successful careers and thus make a significant impact on the West Michigan community and beyond. It is their hope this scholarship will allow students to attend Calvin who otherwise might not have been able to do so.

Warren and Dorothy Koop Scholarship

Warren and Dorothy Koop were blessed with four sons and each of the four sons had a different make-up as each was called to do something completely different from his siblings. Warren and Dorothy were very supportive of their sons, making sure that each had the opportunity of a Christian education. They were good hearted parents, loving each son for who he was in spite of each sons different abilities. Calvin was, and is, important to the Koops. Both parents were committed to higher education taught from a Christian perspective. Since they fully understood the fact that each child learns differently, the Koops are interested in providing a scholarship to a student who doesn't learn quite the same way that most teachers teach. The Office of Academic Services at Calvin addresses differences in learning styles and the Koops would like to support a student who is making the best of their ability, especially a student who is challenged and making progress in spite of learning difficulties. Warren Koop was a very successful entrepreneur prior to his untimely death. The Koops would like to see this award given to a business student who shows an entrepreneurial spirit.
