Dance is everywhere in popular American culture. Movies, Broadway, and television all use dance to tell a story, to express joy, to create a mood, or to stir up emotions. Dance is a powerful force in all cultures of the world. The beliefs that people hold dear are reflected in their dance. Changes in social, religious, political, and cultural life give rise to new dances. Sometimes dances lead to changes in social attitudes. In order to redeem dance for Christ, we as Christians must understand the roles that dance plays – and can play – in society.
