Biotechnology
Exploring, Employing, and Preserving Genetic Resources

Students in the lab

Biotechnology is expected to be the #1 applied science of the 21st century. Jobs are quite plentiful and diverse. But because biotechnology affects not only science but also social justice, stewardship, and moral issues, Christian practitioners are needed to provide thoughtful leadership in these areas.

Calvin’s biotechnology major prepares you for a wide range of careers with flexibility to choose graduate/professional school or employment. Students considering a biotechnology major enjoy integrating the sciences, particularly biology and chemistry; using technology to explore and understand biological processes; and applying their knowledge to solve critical problems in our society. Those considering a biotechnology minor are interested in employing these skills and experiences to research problems or social issues that affect their chosen profession.
