Shaping Our Future by Understanding Our Past

Students in Umm-el Jimal, Jordan

"Next to God's world, history is...the richest foundation of wisdom, and the surest guide." These words by the noted historian Philip Schaff capture the sensibility that the Calvin College History Department tries to cultivate in the classroom.

The Archaeology minor may be taken in conjunction with any major, and is designed to give students enough familiarity, theory, and practice of archaeology around the world either to qualify for specialized graduate school programs or the be ready for a life of amateur enjoyment of the field.
