Student RetreatsWhat are student retreats and how do I sign up? It's well-known that meeting in small groups with interested peers and mentors can help students identify their calling and gifts. The Lilly Vocation Project supports small group retreats so students can develop relationships with professors and professional college staff members, ask hard questions, and get credible personal responses. Student groups, resident halls and academic departments design their own retreats. What if my major doesn't sponsor a student retreat on vocation? Speak to professors in your major or your residence hall director to propose a retreat on vocation. Offer to gather other interested students to help plan it. Interested students and faculty can then contact Bob Crow, Dean of Student Development at x6-6165 to set up the necessary budget and other details. How does the Lilly Vocation Project affect a student organization? The Lilly Vocation Project aims to inspire each student organization to think about how their time together could inform and affect their choice of vocation. Faculty, staff, and the director of Christian Formation can all help student organizations discuss this topic. They can also help student organizations design vocational choice retreats. Will the Project fund off-campus student retreats or conferences? We recognize the value of selected non-Calvin sponsored opportunities for students to explore their sense of vocation. These events should relate to faith and vocation development. To encourage such explorations the Lilly Vocation Project provides a $50 reimbursement to Calvin students who attend such events as a Calvin group and then each write a three-page reflective essay that is shared with at least three other attendees and Bob Crow, Dean of Student Development. When are student retreats happening? Student retreats happen throughout the year. Be on the lookout! |
