Mathematics: The Games We Play

Have you ever wondered what the world of mathematics beyond the textbook is like? In this five-day camp, you will engage in mathematical thinking involving games, puzzles and problems.

Science Camps

Delve deep into chemistry or physics and experience hands-on learning during these camps.

Imaginary Worlds Camps

Create your own imaginary computer-generated world using the newly updated 3-D virtual reality software ALICE. Tell a story by filling your world with characters and objects, and then animating them using computer programming techniques. Turn your story into a computer-generated movie you can show family and friends. Take home a CD containing a copy of your story/movie, plus your own copy of the ALICE software to keep.

Chemistry Camps for Girls

These camps explore the fundamentals of chemistry in an exciting, hands-on way. Discover how much fun science can be. Learn basic chemistry including acids, bases, and chemical reactions.

Literature & Writing Camp

Experience the excitement and wonder of classic literature, word origins, and written expression in this five-day camp.

Who should attend – Students who love learning and are challenged by complexity will benefit from the individual attention that is possible because of small class size and excellent instruction from college professors and master teachers.

Qualifying Test Scores - A copy of one of the following qualifying test scores must be submitted: Midwest Academic Talent Search (ACT, SAT or EXPLORE); 95th percentile on an achievement test (CTBS, Stanford, Iowa, etc.); or MEAP Level 1 (Exceeds Standards). If test scores are not available call 526-6200 or e-mail eas22@calvin.edu for a parent nomination form.

Registration and Confirmation – Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, with notifications of acceptance sent by e-mail or postcard beginning in March, 2008. Applications received after June 1 will be honored only if space is available.

Cancellation Policy – Prior to June 15, fees minus 10% will be refunded upon receipt of a written request for cancellation.

Fees – All instruction, supervision, materials, supplies and an ACE t-shirt are covered by the listed fee. Snacks and lunches are not provided.

Financial Aid – Information and applications for partial financial aid are available upon request to those who qualify for federal free or reduced lunch programs.

How to Enroll – You have two ways to register for ACE:

GT Resource Network – Calvin College is grateful to GT Resource Network for promoton and support of ACE camps. GTRN is a volunteer, membership-supported organization that provides important activities for gifted students and families in West Michigan.
