Furthering the call
The Spoelhof Family Institute initiates and supports college programs and events that promote Christian leadership in business. The Institute reaches Calvin students and faculty as well as the broader business community. It sponsors activities such as
- faculty externships in business
- student cooperative and internship programs
- business courses for non-business majors
- conferences and speakers
The Spoelhof Family Institute for Christian Leadership in Business originated through a generous endowment by the John and Judy Spoelhof family because of their interest in and commitment to the development of Christian leadership in business at Calvin College. The Spoelhof Family shares with Calvin College a vision for integrating Christian faith with all dimensions of life. This vision includes service to one's neighbors, one's community and one's world by means of business enterprise. The Institute and the college support the Spoelhof family's desire to build bridges between business and Christian higher education, encouraging Christian business leaders in their continuing development.

John and Judy Spoelhof are the parents of four adult sons, all of whom are Calvin College alumni. Three of their sons majored in business at Calvin, while one completed a Calvin degree in engineering. All of them are actively employed in major business undertakings. These parents, along with their sons and spouses, wish to support the ongoing efforts of the college to build strong links between Christian faith, business life, and the educational efforts of Calvin College.
