The Edna Greenway Scholarship
Dr. Edna Greenway taught students from elementary school and high school through college and seminary to speak and love the Spanish language. The Spanish department is pleased to honor her with an endowed scholarship, so that future generations of students will benefit from her Reformed Christian perspective on teaching and learning even after she has retired. This scholarship encourages students to reflect on and articulate the importance of the integration of faith in their own lives and careers.
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a current Calvin College student planning to enroll full time the following year
- Be entering your junior or senior year
- Be a Spanish education major (Elementary or Secondary)
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Submit an essay of 300-500 words answering the question “How will you integrate your faith into teaching Spanish?”
- Submit a list of your volunteer activities
- Submit a list of your work/activities done in conjunction with the Calvin Spanish department
- Provide two recommendations (one from a professor) attesting to the the integration of faith in your life
Financial need is not required.
The completed application is due on the second Friday of March by 5:00 pm. Candidates will be notified by late March or early April of their success in obtaining this scholarship.
The Elsa Cortina Award
The Elsa Cortina Award is given each year to the graduating senior with the highest gpa. The student who earns this award has their name inscribed on a plaque in the Spanish department, and receives a gift from the Spanish department.
