Biography

Professor Miller enjoys reading, collecting coins, running, listening to all types of music and traveling to Libraries in Spain and Argentina.  Hawaii is also a place that he and his wife enjoy visiting during the winter.  He has two sons, one who lives and works in San Francisco.

Research and scholarship

Professor Miller’s academic interests include Nineteenth century Spanish and Latin American novelists and short story writers, Central American women authors and African and Afro-Hispanic writers.  He is currently involved in producing a collection of Argentina Diaz Lozano’s short stories published in Honduran and Guatemalan newspapers from 1945-1980, and in a volume of literature published by Afro-Argentine and Afro-Uruguayan writers in newspapers published in Argentine and Uruguayan black newspapers from 1826-1890.  He is currently working with a group of researchers in Argentina on indexing the newspapers and then creating a web page that would allow researchers in all the disciplines access to the material.

  • August 2010: Presented a paper at ILCH conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina Texto y Vida de los Afro-argentinos en la Prensa Argentina del Siglo XIX
  • April 2006: Presented a paper at Michigan Academy in Detroit, Michigan.  Another Dimension of the Black Diaspora: The Black Communities of Argentina and Uruguay.
  • August 2005: Presented a paper at ILCH Conference in Puerto Montt, Chile.  Argentina Díaz Lozano and the New Historical Novel in Latin America.

  • De Azul y Blanco (Of Blue and White) A bilingual text of poems written by the Spanish poet José Luis García Suárez, published 2007 by Edward Miller and Kori VanderKooi.
