For the first time this summer, the Spanish Department offered a Graduate workshop aimed at teachers.  Professor Dianne Zandstra taught Spanish 601 “Así se habla: Advanced Grammar for Spanish Teachers” from July 10-14.  The intensive one-week workshop focused on areas of grammar particularly problematic to English-speaking learners of Spanish. The aim was to deepen and strengthen the teachers' mastery of the structures, providing both conversational and writing practice, and to develop strategies for classroom presentation and application. Participants completed assignments and presented model lessons during the workshop.
Although enrollment in the course was low, the department was encouraged by the interest expressed in graduate courses in Spanish.  If you are interested in continuing study in the Spanish Department or if you have suggestions for summer workshops, please let us know!
