Sheila E. Bluhm Sheila E. Bluhm received her Ph.D. from Western Michigan University and undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, where she also taught before coming to Calvin in the fall of 2005. She is published in the Affirmative Action Encyclopedia (2004) and the Encyclopedia of American Race Riots (2006). She chairs multiple presentation sessions at North Central Sociological Association Annual Meetings. Prof. Bluhm teaches Introductory Sociology, Medical Sociology, Race & Ethnic Relations, Sociology of the Family, Social Gerontology, Sociology of Women’s Health, and Women and Aging courses. In Interim 2007 she taught “Wonder Woman” on the sociological perspective of female health throughout the life course. She recently completed research on the social significance of gray hair on women of age in online advertising, and her current research is a socio-historical study of the social construction of the Menopause. Other research interests include women’s health and body image, medical sociology, the sociology of aging, and feminist gerontology. |
