(1979, 1980 respectively, both University of Minnesota), Ph.D. (1991, UCLA), is Associate Professor of Statistics and Research, Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice, Calvin College, Michigan. Prof. De Jong has taught in higher education since 1982, half at the doctoral and master's level, and now for 8 years undergraduate social statistics and social research methods. He has directed 14 funded projects in applied research on human services organizations and service delivery for awards totaling more than $3.2 million. Program evaluation studies have included interventions for homelessness, domestic violence and violence reduction in juvenile detention. In 1999-2001 he was principal investigator on planning grants from the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and from the Calvin Center for Christian Scholarship. In this effort he co-led a national team of scholars to identify and further research the measurement and effectiveness issues related to faith-based human service delivery. During 2000-2001 he served as Associate Director (in collaboration with Baylor University, Texas) for a Lilly Foundation-funded, national study of church-based social services. Beginning in 1998, he has served as visiting faculty to the Russian American Christian University, Moscow, in the establishment of a Russian government licensed social work program. |
