Summer Research: Safety Training

Safety training meetings 2017

There will be a safety training meeting at Monday, May 21 and a repeat session on Tuesday, May 29 for those who can't attend the May 21 meeting. The meetings will be held in SB110 at 9:00 a.m. and will last for approximately 10 minutes to 3 hours, depending on your type of research.

This is for ALL undergraduate summer researchers. Undergraduate researchers who have attended this meeting in a prior summer are required to attend this session as a refresher. The first 10 minutes or so will be important information about entering hours online for the summer, and you will receive the ID badges you are required to display. After that, any summer researcher doing any work in a laboratory in the Science Building, DeVries Hall, or Engineering Projects Building will need to attend the Chemical Safety training and may also need to attend the Biological Safety training. If your summer research never requires you to enter a laboratory in these buildings, you are free to leave.

If you are unsure whether you should attend the full training meeting, please contact your research mentor as soon as possible. You can count time spent in the training meeting as hours worked when you fill in your on-line hours.

Attendance will be taken, so if you are unable to attend one of the meetings, you should contact Beth Schoone-Jongen ( for the online hour entry information and to pick up your ID badge. You should also contact your research mentor to make alternate arrangements for safety training in your workplace.
