Summer Research: Safety Training

Safety training meetings 2014

There will be a safety training meeting at 10:15 AM, Tuesday, May 27, in SB 202. This is for all undergraduate summer researchers in Chemistry and Biology labs, and any other undergraduate researchers who will be working with chemical hazards this summer. Undergraduate researchers who have attended this meeting in a prior summer are expected to attend this session as a refresher. For students starting during the second week of the summer research period, there will be a repeat session on Monday, June 2 at 10:15 AM, in SB 202. The orientation will last for about an hour and will be led by Professor Chad Tatko, Chemical Hygiene Officer. Attendance will be taken.

After the safety training meeting, there will be a short break and then Lori Keen, Biology lab services manager, will lead a Biosafety training session for any researchers working with biological organisms – bacteria, viruses, cell culture or other biological materials. This session will be approximately 20-30 minutes.

If you are unsure whether you should attend either of these training meetings, please contact your research mentor as soon as possible. You can count time spent in the training meetings as hours worked when you fill in your on-line hours.
