Background:
A bequest has been received from Dr. John and Mrs. Lillian Van Oosten the income from which is to be used to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing studies in the natural sciences. Scholarships are to be awarded on the basis of financial need and scholastic merit.
Amount: Six scholarships of $2,600 each will be awarded for 2008-2009
Criteria:
- Major in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, or Physics
- Current Calvin student planning to enroll full time the following year
- Entering Junior or Senior year
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Some evidence of financial need
- Essay required (one or more paragraphs, typed, double-spaced) assessing how you personally meet the primary criteria of scholarship and financial need and the subsidiary criteria of Christian character, and promise of growth.
