Science Division Scholarships
for incoming students

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Scholarship
Deadline: January 31, 2008
Incoming students who plan to major in biology, chemistry, physics, or mathematics and plan to pursue a career in research or education. This scholarship is worth $2,500 and is renewable for four years.

2008 Scholarship Timeline
February 13: applications are available
March 7: applications are due
Early April: recipients are notified

Students can download electronic copies of the applications and recommendation forms. Completed forms must be submitted to the Science Division Office, North Hall 156, by March 7, 2008.

If you are applying for more than one Science Division and/or Science
Departmental scholarship and asking the same professor for multiple
recommendations, the professor need submit only one recommendation.

The Debra Deur Scholarship
Students entering their Sophomore, Junior or Senior year majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science or Physics. This scholarship is renewable.
2008-2009 Award: 1 scholarship of $2,800

The James and Beatrice Harkema Family Scholarship
Students entering their Junior or Senior year pursuing a degree in biomedical science (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology or medicine).
2008-2009 Award: 2 scholarships of $2,350 each

The John and Lillian Van Oosten Scholarship
Students entering their Junior or Senior year pursuing a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, or Physics.
2008-2009 Award: 6 scholarships of $2,600 each

The Laura and Gary Greenfield Chemistry and Math Scholarship
Students entering their Junior or Senior year pursuing a degree in Mathematics or Chemistry. This scholarship is renewable.
2008-2009 Award: 1 scholarship of $1,500

The Steven M. Zifferblatt Memorial Scholarship
Students entering their Senior year (or fifth year Senior) pursuing a program in one of the health care professions such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy, etc.
This scholarship requires a special essay (see criteria).
2008-2009 Award: 1 scholarship of $6,000

The VanDerWoude Science Scholarship
Students entering their Junior or Senior year pursuing a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.
2008-2009 Award: 1 scholarship of $3,500

The William J. and Glenda Masselink Scholarship
Students entering their Junior or Senior year pursuing pre-dentistry, pre-medicine or a major in Physics. This scholarship is renewable.
2008-2009 Award: 1 scholarship of $1,500
