Government documents are books, pamphlets, or other materials published by a federal, state, or local government agency. Many government documents are in both electronic and paper form. Look for an URL in the body of the citation which will lead you to the electronic version of the item.

Please note! The format of citations vary considerably between databases. All these characteristics may not be present in one citation. If a citation contains two or more of these characteristics, it's probably a government document citation.

1 - The author of a government document is frequently some office, bureau, or department of the government.
2 - "Supt Docs" is an abbreviation for the Superintendent of Documents, the publisher of U.S. government documents.
3 - "GovDoc" is a common abbreviation for government documents.
