The Changing Nature of Information

Summary

Research will be an essential part of your time in college. And for many of you, an essential component of life after college. Research is a complex and time-consuming process. Research involves critical thinking skills, writing skills and library skills. Remember, there is a public Web and a private Web; the library's website is your portal to both. Finally, the traditional library may be dull and hard to use, but it's where you will find most of the knowledge you seek.

The next two sections deal with the mechanics and art of research. Specifically, you will learn how to effectively search databases, how to locate research material, and evaluate what you find.
