Software Skills

As part of IDIS 110 (Foundations of Information Technology) you are expected to learn some software skills that will assist you in your personal, academic, and professional life. Given the variety of software and the constant revisions inherent in the nature of information technology, a major goal of these tutorials is to help you become a lifelong learner in information technology, taking advantage of the resources at your disposal. The skills tutorials are divided into two categories: prerequisite skills and course skills.

Prerequisite Skills - Skills you are expected to know for this course. If you need to learn these skills or need a refresher, go to the respective tutorials listed below.

  • Digital Communication (Basic Features): Webmail (See appropriate section of the checklist for details on specific skills) and KnightVision
  • Operating Systems: Windows (See checklist for details on specific skills)
  • Word Processing: Microsoft Word 2003 (See checklist for details on specific skills)
  • Presentation Software: Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 (See checklist for details on specific skills)
  • Digital Communication (Concepts, Advanced Features): Webmail (See appropriate sections of the checklist for details on specific skills)

Course Skills - Skills you will learn as part of this course. In addition to software skills IDIS 110 covers information technology concepts and knowledge, and ethics and issues surrounding information technology.

  • Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel 2003 (See checklist for details on specific skills)
