IDIS 110,
Foundations of Information Technology (sometimes called RIT), is a required
one-credit core course that was implemented as part of the new core in 2001–02
academic year.
IDIS 110 acts as a foundation for learning about the skills,
concepts, and ethics related to information technology. It provides a
foundation for informed and ethical decision-making within the context
of each person's specific academic, personal, and professional lives.
It does not create fluency in using or understanding information
technology, but is a springboard for further learning. Like all liberal
arts courses, main foci include teaching students how to learn
within a specific field, as well as providing a foundation to create individuals
engaged with the world as agents of renewal.
As an alternative to IDIS 110, students may also satisfy the FIT core requirement by taking CS 108: Introduction to Computing or ENGR 101: Introduction to Engineering Design.
